Piers Morgan Unloads On Pro-Gun Advocate: ‘You’re An Unbelievably Stupid Man, Aren’t You?’

TOM KLUDT 2:00 PM EST, WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 19, 2012

CNN's Piers Morgan on Tuesday unloaded on a pro-gun advocate during an extremely contentious interview on his show.

During the interview, Larry Pratt, the executive director of Gun Owners of America, contended that adding more guns in society and arming teachers could help prevent mass shootings like the one last week in Newtown, Conn., arguing that attempts to institute stricter gun control laws in European countries have failed.

That set off Morgan, who proceeded to compare gun-related deaths in America to other industrialized countries. When Pratt attempted to counter Morgan's statistics, the host fired back with an insult. “You’re an unbelievably stupid man, aren’t you?” Morgan said.

“It seems to me that you are morally obtuse,” Pratt responded. “You seem to prefer being a victim to being able to prevail over the criminal element. I don’t know why you want to be the criminal’s friend.”

"Well, Chris, let's be very clear. What he means is...me. I was one of those people for twenty-five years. And I was in Texas when I heard on the radio someone said the way to solve this nation's problems was to shoot me in the head as an ATF agent. And after that we had a president of the United States retire from the NRA, he wouldn't take it anymore, a line had been crossed."

Gun lovers don't care their lethal toys might be stolen and used to massacre kids at their local elementary school. Many of them are too stupid, even after recent events, to even acknowledge the chance they are taking.

He didn't let the gun nut weasel out of an answer with a non-answer. When the guy kept going on & on, never making a point, Morgan interrupted, saying, "Answer the question." The guy would drone on. "Answer the question." At one point he was so disgusted at what the guy was saying he cut to break.

I don't think I've seen that much true journalism during that time slot on CNN.

Americans seem to have more of a tendency to be polite and behave as though people spouting utter insanity are perfectly reasonable; as much as anything else you can blame this, I think, on American media's striving for a false sense of "balance" by treating both sides of an argument as equally valid. British news media, particularly British newspapers (which is the background Morgan comes from) don't engage in this sort of idea of "balance"; they take sides and stake out positions on issues.

The funny thing is, the American stereotype of British people is that they are almost ridiculously polite. I think maybe Americans are timid because we are more conformists? There's also the jingoism.

only way people can protect themselves. There is alot more to it than that. Situational awareness, knowing where the escape routes/hiding places are is a big part of it, and you don't need a gun to resist. Some of these shooters have been rushed and subdued by unarmed people.

Fucking gun nuts. Time to take away their precious little penis extensions.

Here's Larry Pratt being interviewed by Chris Matthews on Hardball:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036697/ns/msnbc_tv-hardball_with_chris_matthews/#50230330

As much as I dislike Matthews, the video is worth the listen.

And here is Pratt's piece from USA Today this past Sunday:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2012/12/16/gun-free-zones-larry-pratt/1773473/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+News-Opinion+(News+-+Opinion)

In addition to the gunman, blood is on the hands of members of Congress and the Connecticut legislators who voted to ban guns from all schools in Connecticut (and most other states). They are the ones who made it illegal to defend oneself with a gun in a school when that is the only effective way of resisting a gunman.

See Petition To Deport British Citizen Piers Morgan for Attacking 2nd Amendment. This petition is saying "We believe that Piers Morgan should be deported because he disagrees with us on gun control". I wonder if the people who initiated and signed this petition could be deported for attacking the 1st Amendment.

I have said that when many conservatives say "I support freedom of speech," they actually mean "I support freedom of speech, insofar as I approve of what is being said." In other words, they do not support freedom of speech.
