TPM: Sen. Scott Brown Supports Ban On Assault Weapons

Hmm, I wonder why Scott Brown would put out a statement like this all of a sudden. What an odd thing for a non-elected official to just suddenly do. Do you think he might be, I dunno, maybe thinking about getting back into the ring at some unspecified moment in the medium-term future?

Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) indicated he would support a federal ban on assault weapons, contrary to a previous position, The Republican reported Wednesday:

Brown cited the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting that killed 26 people, including 20 children, as the turning point in his stance on the issue.

"What happened in Newtown where those children were subject to that level of violence is beyond my comprehension. As a state legislator in Massachusetts I supported an assault weapons ban thinking other states would follow suit. But unfortunately, they have not and innocent people are being killed," Brown said. "As a result, I support a federal assault weapons ban, perhaps like the legislation we have in Massachusetts."

Feinstein is re-introducing it during the lame duck, I think.

It's still a stupid law that doesn't do what people think it does, but anything that makes McConnell look like an idiot is fun.

He has been US Senator for 2 years and it took him this weekend to realize other states have no ban on assault weapons?

I guess somebody told him that his previous position was not exactly popular in MA, and if he is going to run next year, he has to change.
