- Japan advising to evacuate vulnerable areas
- West coast impacts expected to be minor. Will hit around 11:59 during low tide. 1-3 ft wave heights.
- Crescent City California most at risk on the west coast.
- Lots of aftershocks - 6.9, 6.3.
- Earthquake upgraded to 8.8

I believe they had signs for it everywhere in the 70's. Who wouldn't want Russian vodka? Seagram's Vodka just didn't have that authentic ring to it.

See at the intial onset the Russian name is enough to make you think – well okay it’s cheap and bottom shelf, but if it’s Russian it can’t be worse than Gordon’s or Mr. Boston. It is though, and that’s liekly because it was made in Kentucky by a large corporation – who should be shot. (Honestly we like the Suntory Whiskey, but when you buy companies that make this shit, you suck just a little bit more.)

Tide is dropping now, low at about 10:30, so that's going to help. Latest predictions are for 2 foot waves along our coast, but I don't consider that number reliable.

I'm in a condo facing Yaquina Bay just south of the bridge. Absolutely love it here, but have to be observant of these things.

I'm hoping things calm down by 11:30pm. Not sure I can stay awake, but nervous to go to sleep. If the big one hits, I hope I get taken out fast.

As of 7pm Pacific time, Hawaii also getting warnings. Latest magnitude 8.7, that I just heard on the news. They led with it.

I was born in CA and spent many years there and experienced more that a few. Then stationed in Japan for 1 year and got a few minor ones. Now in SW WA and I.m glad we're about 70 miles from the coast.

I live in Coronado and we're surrounded, as you know, by the Pacific ocean and San Diego Bay. While I don't downplay tsunamis Coronado does have some protection. Point Loma juts out from San Diego Bay and protects us from tsunamis from the Northwest. The Coronado Island to the Southwest off Mexico helps dissipate the power of a tsunami hitting us. While I don't discount the dangers of a tsunami I think we'll be okay whatever happens.

One thing I won't do is go to the beach or the bay until the tsunami danger is over. There are plenty of fools who'll head to the beach to see the tsunami and IMO they're candidates for a Darwin Award.

from what I viewed, I have to say some of the buildings held up pretty well, not as much cracks nor openings ground wise and the cars held firm.

8.8 I guess was far enough from the city in the ocean but alas the big "T" would ensue. So far that did not happen.

Living the Los Angeles since 3, I know about earthquakes and in most cases there is no warnings.

90. The city was destroyed by a tsunami in 1952. It was rebuilt in a higher location. The port is on the ocean.

I believe today's tsunami at the same location was16 feet at maximum. So, yeah that's pretty high. I don't know what elevation the town is now,. It's also a low population area. The tsunami destroyed their port.
