Judge Detested by Trump Will Oversee Epstein Files Case

A lawsuit seeking a trove of government documents related to Jeffrey Epstein just got passed to the federal judge who made Donald Trumps life a living hell.
U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who previously presided over Trumps federal election interference case, will now oversee a new lawsuit from Democracy Forward Foundation, a D.C.-based nonprofit, requesting the Department of Justice and the FBI release any communications between Trump officials on the Epstein matter, any communication between Trump and Epstein himself, and Epsteins so-called client list that Attorney General Pam Bondi previously acknowledged having in her possession.
In conjunction with several Freedom of Information Act requests, DFF also requested expedited processing. DFF argued that the swift acquisition of the documents was a matter of widespread and exceptional media interest in which there exist possible questions about the governments integrity that affect public confidence and that there was a particular exigency in light of Trumps refusal to rule out clemency for Ghislaine Maxwell, Epsteins convicted co-conspirator.

(1,664 posts)pragmatic................After six months of Trump being in control of the FBI and DOJ most records have been "disappeared" ...........
Knowing Trump, he probably has them all, in his Mar-a-GAGo bathrooms, to use to black mail all the people on the list of Epstein's Clients.....

Lawsuit over Epstein files could expose Trump administrationâs handling of the matter www.msnbc.com/deadline-whi...

The suit has been assigned to U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who presided over Donald Trumps federal election interference case, which the DOJ moved to dismiss after he won the 2024 presidential election.
The legal claim in the new suit is that the government failed to comply with FOIA by not granting speedy processing of the groups requests under the federal transparency law.
By failing to grant Plaintiffs requests for expedited processing on Plaintiffs FOIA requests concerning matters of widespread and exceptional media interest in which there exist possible questions about the governments integrity that affect public confidence, ... and national urgent need to inform the public, ... [government] Defendants have violated FOIA, the complaint alleges.
The administration will have an opportunity to respond in court. How it does so will reveal its latest stance in the affair that has dogged the White House for its lack of transparency and failure to fulfill its promise to release the full Epstein records.
