Gingrich has 8-9 point lead in Florida

Fresh off his rather dominating win in South Carolina over the weekend, Newt Gingrich has opened up a lead in Florida, the next battleground in what is becoming an increasingly unpredictable battle for the Republican nomination.

A pair of polls out Monday show the former House speaker with a near double digit lead over Mitt Romney in the Sunshine State. Rasmussen Reports shows Gingrich's lead at 9 points, 41-32, while a new Insider Advantage poll has the gap at 8 points, 34-26.

They have a history of voting against their own interests.

The only hope for Florida is to have more Dems show up at the polls than rethugs at the GE.

This November's race might be between the adult in the room (President Obama) and the combined right-wing ids of Gingrich, the Tea Party, and other right-wing Republicans. Presenting them as irresponsible, impulse-driven psychotics living in worlds of fantasy might not play so well with the punditry, but I think it's a pretty fair description of the Flurry With The Fringe On The Top and its likely presidential candidate, Newt Gingrich.
