or Obama or Clinton or DEI. The more ludicrous the reason, the more they'll embrace it. That's just who they are.

They will certainly be in lower tax brackets now, no tax on tips, and lower income means lower taxes.

Vegas, or at least the Strip decided to tell their middle class tourist to fuck off and go after the big high rollers. They made everything too expensive, added fee after fee, raised the odds on gambling, made everything from food to shows to parking way over priced and started building fancy luxury hotels instead of the fun casinos.
They even have a name for it there, The Gouge. They are killing the golden goose.
This plus most places in the country have good casinos closer to home.
Suicide by arrogance. Asta La Vista Las Vegas.

was just in Vegas visiting a relative. Not there for the casinos. We did walk around a bit. It was astonishing to see outlets of fancy NY restaurants that charged more there than they do in NYC.

staying at the hotels who are afraid to leave because of all the homeless people. (stories re-inforced by the hotel to keep them there.)
Too bad Trump has chased away the foreign tourists.

and we aren't into the casino scene or partying. We went to Vegas a few years ago to visit his brother and family at Thanksgiving. I've always wanted to see Vegas and we thought it would be a fun trip combined with seeing family. We got an airline deal that combined the flight with a hotel on the Strip and a rental car.
We're midwesterners but we aren't naive. We expected things to be really expensive and had saved what we thought was a sufficient amount. But holy hell, we're we shocked! Fifteen bucks just for water! Fees tacked onto EVERYTHING! A simple meal for two without drinks or other add-ons was easily near a hundred dollars. And on and on. Vegas can stuff it!!

Granted, I was there for a convention. There were two other big conventions in town that we knew of - DefCon at the LV Convention Center, and BlackHat at the Mandalay Bay. It was busy, but not abnormally so. Of course, it was triple-digit heat, and we stayed in the hotel most of the time. But our Lyft drivers were saying that business was down overall.

People can gamble on their phones if they want to. Many states have legalized gambling. Plus, the cost of hotel rooms in Vegas is insane - especially with the "resort fee" bullshit. It's not worth it. We had a good time at the Star Trek convention, but will not be returning anytime soon.

I have a client who is in the hospitality biz in the upper midwest (SD, MN, MI, OH, etc). They have a few dozen hotels and resorts. And other than two popular properties, they are all down in revenue. Especially noticeable is the drop in Canadian visitors.

Vegas has their own set of issues but this is hitting a lot in the tourism/hospitality industry.

U.S. Tourism Will Lose Up To $29 Billion As Visitors Plummet Amid Trump Policies

Key Facts

Last month, a study from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) that analyzed the economic impact of tourism in 184 countries revealed the U.S. was the only country forecast to see international visitor spending decline in 2025.

The WTTC projects the U.S. to be on track to lose $12.5 billion in international visitor spending this year compared to last year, according to the research.

It could be argued, however, that the actual losses will be significantly larger, given that Tourism Economics, a division of Oxford Economics, had originally forecasted the U.S. would see a 9% jump in international inbound travel in 2025.

A 9% increase would have equated to a boost of about $16.3 billion in revenue for the U.S. economy.

Instead, Tourism Economics has revised its baseline forecast to a year-over-year decline of 8.2%—a significant 17.2% variance from its original 9% increase.

From the anticipated $16.3 billion increase in revenue to a loss of between $8.3 billion (Tourism Economics estimate) and $12.5 billion (WTTC estimate), the U.S. is facing a shortfall of $25 billion to $29 billion this year.

$715 Million in Taxes, $2.5 Billion in Spending Power at Risk

WASHINGTON, DC, August 6 — A new report released today by the American Immigration Council details the sweeping economic and humanitarian toll of the Trump administration’s June 2025 travel ban, which restricts immigration from 19 countries. In 2022, nearly 300,000 people from these countries came to the United States, filling critical jobs and paying up to  $715.6 million in taxes.

“Those affected by this travel ban are students, workers, and family members who pay taxes, support local economies, and fill jobs in industries facing massive shortages. We’re throwing all of that away, to the detriment of our communities and the U.S. economy,” said Nan Wu, research director of the American Immigration Council.

for birthdays or just to get away. But if it's as expensive as people say then people will be less likely to go.

If people are going to spend a lot they might be more likely to go other places.
