Purely from a tech standpoint.

https://status.grindr.com/ - did report issues with chat late last night.

https://downdetector.com/status/grindr/ - company that monitors some major websites (not DU though). User reports. 171 of them.

Now ... Massive outage? I think not. But that graph showing reports of 171 outages worldwide does look interesting. Put it into perspective Twitter (x) reported a peak of 140 outages over the past 24 hours, as a single event.

This is probably the source of the Grindr reports of being "down". This comes from user reports and records problems with apps as well as websites. There are alternatives but they mainly focus on website being there or not - not whether it's got performance issues.
