which has progressively sifted out any Repugs in the House or Senate with the slightest modicum of a spine, or willingness to speak or act independently and contrariwise to Trump/MAGA. The House and Senate Repugs don't even want to have the power to check him, never mind a thought about using such a power.

I was basically agreeing with you, but holding out hope that something positive will happen. I also agree with your analysis of the current situation. I don’t know why you’d assume I fail to understand of the MAGA movement’s effect on the Republican Party. I’m pessimistic, but 4 senators and 5 or so reps crossing the isle even on singular issues might stop the momentum. At some point, Trump’s policies are going to cause undeniably visible and widespread discomfort to the Republican base. Maybe, just maybe, then some Rs will feel the pressure to do something to check some executive overreach.
