Bill Kristol: "The point to be transmitted . . . is "This is Donald Trump's military.'"

"Trump will be the headliner at Tuesday’s show. Hegseth will be the undercard.

The point to be transmitted to the assembled generals, to all their troops watching at home and abroad, and to the American people, will be this: This is Donald Trump’s military."

or almost all of them.

One could argue that Germany would have lost anyway, but Hitler's firing of generals and incessant meddling in strategy and tactics definitely sped the process up.

From the NYT:

Mr. Trump appeared unfamiliar with the meeting when he was asked about it during an Oval Office appearance on Thursday, but he quickly said it was good that Mr. Hegseth had organized it.

“Let him be friendly with the generals and admirals from all over the world,” Mr. Trump said. “You act like this is a bad thing. Isn’t it nice that people are coming from all over the world to be with us?”

Military leaders voice concern over Hegseth's new Pentagon strategy

Source: Washington Post

Military leaders have raised serious concerns with the Trump administration’s forthcoming defense strategy, exposing a divide between the Pentagon’s political and uniformed leadership as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth summons top brass to a highly unusual summit in Virginia on Tuesday, according to eight current and former officials.

Two points on Tuesday's Quantico conclave of the generals:

1. Surely Trump will be featured. Hegseth will be the undercard.

2. The point will be to showcase Trump's power. It won't be to convince the generals of anything. The point will be a propaganda spectacle for their troops and the public.
