His name is SMA Michael Weimar and the look he's giving is one of pure nicotine and hate. And to his right is the Chief of Staff of the Army, Gen. Randy A. George. Note that S'arnt Major sports a Special Forces tab, while the CoS AUSA holds a Ranger tab.
And where are the tabs, any tabs, of the fucking drunk lecturing them? Nowhere because he was too much of a chickenshit to try.
Fuck him and his cowardly, bone spurred boss.

Adm. Lisa Franchetti: Dismissed as the Chief of Naval Operations on February 21, 2025. She was the first woman to lead the U.S. Navy.
Gen. Timothy Haugh: Fired as head of both the National Security Agency (NSA) and U.S. Cyber Command in April 2025. He had served in intelligence and cyber operations for over 30 years.
Gen. Jeffrey Kruse: Fired as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) in August 2025. This occurred after the DIA reportedly contradicted White House claims about Iran's nuclear facilities.

Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force: Gen. James Slife was also dismissed in February 2025.
Lt. Gen. Jennifer Short: The top military assistant to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was relieved of her duties in February 2025.
Gen. Mark Milley: His security detail and clearance were revoked in February 2025, and his portrait was removed from the Pentagon. Milley, a retired Army general who served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during Trump's first term, had become a vocal critic of him.

(24,844 posts)I think it's an assumption that something "macho" about the "military" means all vote Republican, since they lean heavily into hyper-machismo imagery (having some serious insecurities around masculinity in general, it seems).
It's always anecdotal, but I have two living veterans in my family - husband and brother-in-law, both Democrats. A close friend, career military, supported GW Bush is registered Independent, but votes Democrat. Past veterans include my father and father-in-law - Democrats.
I think it might be new recruits from certain backgrounds who were already Republican-leaning and overlap with Republicanism.

Spec 4's seemed to be an interesting group. Some were very gung-ho, clearly wanting to become sergeants while others acted like that was the last thing they wanted. Men of both types could be good soldiers and had the potential to be good NCOs, and I appreciated that some of the Spec 4s definitely questioned "the system" and the way things were done.

Tabs of the United States Army refer to the cloth and/or metal arches used to display a word or words signifying a special skill worn on U.S. Army uniforms. Those tabs are used to identify a units or a soldiers special skill(s) or are worn as part of a units unique heritage. Individual tabs are also worn as small metal arches above or below medals or ribbons on dress uniforms.

(9,290 posts)to the analogy to Queeg. The tragedy of Queeg was that at one time he was a fine officer. One doesn't get promoted to O-6 by screwing up. The seeds of his insanity may always have been there, but he must have been able to keep them in check prior to his promotion to Captain. And then they got out. Bligh I don't know about - that was another nation's Navy and a very different time. But Queeg - and I know in the movie that was communicated, I'm sure intentionally, in the faces of the officers who comprised the Court Martial. there's pity there, and pain.
The Apricot Antichrist has always been who he is and I can't see a sane person feeling sorry for him.

(175,358 posts)Did the secretary bring generals and admirals in from around the world so he could treat them like a CPAC audience? Actually, yes, he did.
Why Pete Hegsethâs pitch to generals and admirals was even worse than expected

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/pete-hegseth-speech-generals-admirals-rcna234674
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth slammed fat generals and diversity initiatives that he said led to decades of decay in the military and told a rare gathering of commanders on Tuesday they should resign if they dont support his agenda. Foolish and reckless political leaders set the wrong compass heading and we lost our way. We became the Woke Department, Hegseth said as he kicked off the event in Quantico, Virginia. But not anymore, he said.
Choosing the worst moment from Hegseths bizarre and unnecessary speech is admittedly challenging. Was it his boasts about firing qualified military leaders? Or maybe his condemnation of diversity initiatives and climate change as s--- that the military will no longer care about?.....
Maybe the lowest of the low points was Hegseths comment that seemed to open the door to a new attitude toward war crimes. We unleash overwhelming and punishing violence on the enemy. We also dont fight with stupid rules of engagement. We untie the hands of our warfighters to intimidate, demoralize, hunt, and kill the enemies of our country, he declared. No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement.
Hegseth: "We unleash overwhelming and punishing violence on the enemy. We also don't fight with stupid rules of engagement. We untie the hands of our warfighters to intimidate, demoralize, hunt, and kill the enemies of our country. No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement."
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2025-09-30T13:06:31.204Z
In other words, Hegseth spent millions of taxpayer dollars to bring generals and admirals in from around the world so that he could treat them like a CPAC audience.
As for those in attendance who mightve been uncomfortable with the secretarys absurdities, he extended some advice to them, too. If the words Im speaking today are making your heart sink, then you should do the honorable thing and resign, Hegseth said.
