Just heard from my ex-daughter in law. My grandson came home from school yesterday fearful and not wanting to return. You see, this tall handsome kid with three Irish-American grandparents, looks "Mexican" as he said. Yes he resembles his maternal grandfather! A very handsome gentleman whose family was in Texas before it was a state! The Irish roots only go back to the turn of the last century. ICE came to his town and pulled people out of his school. He's afraid, and his very waspish name might not keep him from being challenged and detained. We're scared. No way to stop this. No one to trust. The fact that his dad served this country for a decade and was Special Forces means nothing! We can't let down the protest! Please don't let them win!

I am sorry if it seems that way. What I am saying is that this is a story where a person who thinks they should be untouchable because they mostly have the right family bloodlines, is now rightly concerned they will be sucked into the ICE machine because they look too Hispanic. If that happens, there is every possibility the young man could never see his family again. That concern is real, and we all pray this does not happen.

I am simply pointing out that while that is a distinct possibility, given how American politicians are allowing this ICE Gestapo to operate, there are millions of people here perfectly legally, who are much more at risk. For them, it isn't just anxiety that they look too Hispanic. They have to change their daily activities and take daily precautions to try to avoid this Gestapo, which has already kidnapped, imprisoned, and deported thousands of people who had every right to be here, with no due process at all.

Yes. We must keep fighting. I just got told about an indivisible ICE response training next Tuesday. Everyone who can should be looking for that. Community is what we need to focus on. We need to link arms and not let them isolate anyone through fear.

9. My uncle, a good looking guy

Who had women lining up even in his old age, would get very dark in the summer. When we were in Puerto Rico, the Puerto Ricans would come up to him and speak in Spanish. He knows very little Spanish. When he would tell them that, they would not believe him. They swore he was Puerto Rican.

He's got a a very British last name and there are even mountains in Kentucky with his last name. His family has a long history in Kentucky. But no Hispanic blood.

He passed away 6 years ago. He would have punched out any ICE agent who would lay hands on him. He was a very nice guy but if you wanted a fight with him or lay hands on him, you would not do well.

Sooo, do you think every Puerto Rican in the States is being snatched up? I suspect they are victims of this crap too.

We don't need millions of people protesting on October 18th, we needs 10's of millions.
My greatest fear is that Trump is trying to provoke incidents that will justify a national emergency, and eventually martial law.
He doesn't want there to be an election in 2026, and will do anything he can to justify calling off the election.
The best route we have now is a huge presence in the streets on 10/18.
We need to send a message to all those Republicans in Congress that the tide is turning against them, and they need to make a choice; either democracy or fascism.
And, we need to let them know that fascism isn't a choice we'll accept.

20. About 20 years ago my oldest daughter got pulled over on

her way to Morro Bay, CA on highway 1. She has black/brown hair and an olive complexion due to her great grandmother being 100% Sicilian. She had a Raiders Nation bumper sticker or decal on her Chevy Tahoe with tinted windows. She was not speeding or done anything wrong except looking like a Mexican American driving a new car. Anyway, they checked her out, she has a very English married surname, and they let her go on her way. When they got back home, the decal came off and she got highlights for her hair. She didn't want to experience that again. She said at the time, "I was profiled."

Both of my daughters have been asked if they were adopted by their friends, I have blond hair, green eyes and very fair skin. My daughters inherited eye color and complexion from husband's Sicilian side of the family. Lots of their friends and teachers always assumed they were people of color, just because they tan super fast. Teachers were shocked when I showed up for teacher conferences or back to school nights.

I am glad my daughters aren't school age now. They are both mothers and have children who do not look like they just got off the boat from Sicily.

However, tell your grandson he will have a great time starting in his mid 30s or so looking up all those cleft headed bully boys to see what they've done with their lives. It's very gratifying and becomes even more so as time goes on.

And my daughter feel the same. There are Germans, British, Welsh that look Mexican too. And now that the Supremes said yes to racial profiling everyone with dark hair is in jeopardy of at least having a day or two ruined by detention. And who's to say it won't happen over and over again?

55% of Hispanic voters in Texas voted for the a-hole in 2024. That ICE is now dragging kids out of schools because they look Mexican is not at all unexpected by most of us on DU, but it has to be a shock to the people whose kids are living in fear even though they are more American than most ICE agents. Hispanics need to send an unmistakeable message in November 2026 that this will not stand.
