Many cultures outside of the core also use it.

(71,516 posts)He books are wonderful...meticulously researched in terms of history.
"The Amelia Peabody series is a series of twenty historical mystery novels and one non-fiction companion volume written by Egyptologist Barbara Mertz (19272013) under the pen name Elizabeth Peters. The series is centered on the adventures of the unconventional female Egyptologist Amelia Peabody Emerson, for whom the series is named, and an ever-increasing number of family, friends, allies, and characters both fictional and based on historical figures."

I am sure there are some Republiklans who want to come back from the extreme right to hopefully (by then) get re-elected, but cant while the Korrupt Korpulent Koprolite is still filling his diapers

I hate thistles. Rip them up by the roots and they come back. They treat Roundup like its taking a shower.

(369 posts)I've read an article everyday this year, most stating Trump is almost done. He has crossed the line with his people. He can't do that. That is not legal. Trump is in trouble now. And on and on. Trump is here to stay. Look at what is going on with armed forces in Democrat cities, he wants to jail Democrat leaders and rabble rousers. All his actions just show how antiquated our 250 year old Constitution actually is. The Heritage Foundation has had four years to comb through it and find every imaginable loophole and they exploited it to the maximum. The Supreme Court is a joke. And I still can't believe that so many in office just sat back and watched as Trump worked within the system to destroy our Democracy. He uses Executive Orders like he is handing out Halloween Candy.
It's funny how it took the Dems 2 years to get the ACA passed when they had both houses of Congress. One old slime ball Republican, Mitch McConnell, delayed and held up the process, and got dozens of changes. Trump got the Big Stupid Bill passed with hardly any problems. I do not think most people are taking seriously enough what is happening to our Country. I am sick to my stomach every single day what it going on. I am actually glad I am on the old side of life, and won't have to live in this hell hole much longer. I do feel for my children and grandchildren though. But there is nothing I can do to change that.

Make Government shutdowns illegal, lots of things we could do.

(21,891 posts)"...he wants to jail Democrat leaders..."
That's DemocratIC cities and leaders. The use of "Democrat" as an adjective rather than a noun is a rightwing slur.

(89,279 posts)Its not the Democrat party or the Democrat leaders or the Democrat ANYTHING! The word Democrat is a noun. NOT an adjective.
All it tells me is that these bastards are either just mean cuz theyre wording it this way on purpose, or theyre just stupid or poorly educated.

As does 'boot'...
Or how about this...
That's 'bad' dude!
In that sentence, what does 'bad' infer?
The intent of the speaker in such cases may be lost and misconstrued by those that are listening.
We're a Big Tent...
I've got no real problem with folks that are out of the loop regarding the historically pejorative nature of the term.
I'd much prefer to keep 'em in the tent!

(1,405 posts)Trump is ruining lives in all manner possible. Here I am in my "golden years" and I wake up every day with dread and foreboding.
He is an evil that has permeated every aspect of this once great country. Damn him.
I love Swalwell, too, and I don't think he'd give us false hope.

(5,132 posts)that I don't want to die, and leave my dog and cat alone without me. Then I said, however, if God(I believe) decided he wanted to bring on the end times, I wouldn't blame him, and I'd be okay with that. She laughed, because she thought I was kidding. I was partially, but at least the worrying what's going to happen would be over.

(1,405 posts)I am a baby boomer and have lived through some very dark times in this nation's history. I have always loved the USA. I was the little lady in the stands at football games wiping tears when the National Anthem was sung. I don't recognize my beloved country anymore, and it's breaking my heart.
I have lost family and friends over Trump...if they believe in him and his evil agenda, they have no place in my life. Hatred, intolerance and cruelty are abhorrent to me.
I don't know what to do, how to get through the days. I pray and ask that our once great democracy be saved, but nothing seems to change. Each day is a new horror.
Take care, friend. I'm right there with you.

(5,132 posts)My parents always helped others. My Mom was a RN and my Dad delivered water to wells, and farmers, and took volunteer fire calls for 3 local companies, and watered the fairgrounds racing track between races. The last he did not for money, but tickets so we could go to the County fair.If people couldn't pay for their water bill, he'd let them pay a little over time interest free. My Mom provided nursing care to my paternal grandma and grandma's friends for free. That's how my sister and I were raised, to work hard, help others without expecting anything in return, and follow the rules.
Now it seems those "values," are no longer valued. It's the people who lie, cheat, steal, and harm others for no valid reason except they are not white straight American born men, and Republican, who are held in esteem. The rest of us are viewed as weak suckers whose only purpose is to worship and work for that privileged class only.
My college professors were mostly guys who were hippies in the sixties, and taught equal rights, to respect the Constitution, and social justice. Now they would be called radicals.
You're right. I don't recognize this country anymore either. It's heartbreaking.
