House Speaker Johnson shows how out of touch he is when it comes to popular culture

House Speaker Johnson Calls Bad Bunny at Super Bowl ‘a Terrible Decision,’ Says It Should’ve Been Someone With ‘a Broader Audience’ — Like Lee Greenwood

House Speaker Mike Johnson has weighed in on the political debate over Bad Bunny being booked to play the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show, saying it was “a terrible decision” — echoing the beliefs of President Donald J. Trump, who already established his own antipathy toward Bad Bunny.

Johnson did have some constructive input for who he believes should have been picked to perform by halftime producer Roc Nation: The Republican leader said ’80s country star Lee Greenwood would have been America’s clear and obvious preference, citing “a broader audience.”

Asked about the controversy outside House chambers, Johnson admitted that the globally popular artist who just hosted “Saturday Night Live” over the weekend was not really on his radar, but said he knew it was a bad call anyway.

Lee Greenwood hasn't had a hit in decades apparently. The only song of his I know is that smarmy "God Bless the USA."

The Horst Wessel Lied of the American Nazi Party.

A musical abomination that would have been consigned to the dustbin of musical history if it hadn't been for 9/11/2001 and everything after. It gave second-rate radio stations an excuse to play it 24/7 for weeks, thereby obviating the need to come up with original and appealing program rosters.

... When you're in a hole – which you most definitely are – the smart move is to stop digging, before it becomes your grave. Politically speaking of course. Heh, heh, heh.

Even this old white lady has heard of Bad Bunny. Lee Greenwood fell off my radar 20 years ago after everyone got tired of God Bless The USA.

The moment I heard it. The Republican desire to blend religion with patriotism is as unpalatable as it is unAmerican.

Didn’t the Republican party used to scream from the rooftops that government had no right to interfere with the decisions of privately owned businesses??

Now the Republican party is devoted to soothing the feelings of one petty, thin-skinned moron who thinks his opinions on EVERY.DAMN.THING should be catered to.

Or ask the Supreme Court to strike down the 1961 law that gives them an exemption. They're not above strong arming businesses to get their way. They've already done it with most of the big media companies.
