Knives are coming out for former Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) in the California gubernatorial race after several videos released this week generated widespread criticism over her behavior.
Porters opponents and other Democrats rebuked the former House member this week after she sought to end an interview early over a question that was visibly frustrating her.
Shortly after, Politico obtained a video of Porter berating a staffer in 2021 for entering her live shot while she was recording a video with then-Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, fueling further backlash.
Though the California primary is months away, the incidents are threatening to hinder her momentum in the race to succeed term-limited Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), where several polls show her leading the field early.

I'm not a Porter fan but this kind of reporting only seems to happen with women candidates.

(2,619 posts)In interviews, 22 current and former vice presidential aides, administration officials and associates of Harris and Biden described a tense and at times dour office atmosphere. Aides and allies said Flournoy, in an apparent effort to protect Harris, has instead created an insular environment where ideas are ignored or met with harsh dismissals and decisions are dragged out. Often, they said, she refuses to take responsibility for delicate issues and blames staffers for the negative results that ensue.
While much of the ire is aimed at Harris chief, two administration officials said the VP herself also bears responsibility for the way her office is run. It all starts at the top, said one of the administration officials, who like others requested anonymity to be able to speak candidly about a sensitive matter.
People are thrown under the bus from the very top, there are short fuses and its an abusive environment, said another person with direct knowledge of how Harris office is run. Its not a healthy environment and people often feel mistreated. Its not a place where people feel supported but a place where people feel treated like s---.

I don't think this should be disqualify. People should vote based on the politicians policies & the ability to do the job.

(58,414 posts)For example, look at the abusive felonious loser in the White House, and look at how the staff and press act like he's a god. And tell me Harris was worst than he is.
It's complete bullshit.

She's not ready for governor.

(12,161 posts)We used to love white boards taking down bs. Calling out bs when she heard it, saw it. Now, because she saw bs with a reporter, apparently, beloved reporter, she saw bs, called it out, Porter is O U T.
Thus, another Dem under the fast moving bus of the news of the day. 🙄

(12,161 posts)I'm an Oregonian. You have it all at stake, us outside, nothing.
We chime in, but we have nothing on the line.
I still respect Porter. As I do Warren, she was also under the bus a time or two.
Harris, I respect, she's receiving some darts right now.
Anyway, PNW Strong! We always come together. 🥰
She was not what you wanted before this latest tempest in a teapot.

(11,956 posts)I was willing to give her another chance, but she hasn't done much to bring me back. This week didn't help.
We have a deep bench. We can find someone better.
Thanks.
People are using this as a dishonest way to smear her because they don't agree with her politics. Shameful.

(2,619 posts)If this was Schumer or Jefferies though the same people "Disgusted" by Katie's behavior would go "Stop Attacking Democrats

But, as a woman...you have to be sweet and biddable 24/7 or you get the label.
Men, they can scream at staff all the livelong day and they are "strong leaders" and "they expect the best from staff" and so on.

(2,619 posts)A Super Pac backed by the crypto industry has spent $10m on ads opposing Katie Porters run for US Senate in California, as the young progressive congresswoman fights a tough battle to make it into a November Senate runoff with the Democratic frontrunner Adam Schiff.
The Fairshake Pac announced early this year that it had raised $85m from leaders across the crypto community for the Pac and its affiliates, with the goal of supporting leaders who champion the interests of progressive innovation and responsible regulation.
One of the Pacs most prominent investments so far is in the race for Senate in California, which is home to Silicon Valley. As a congresswoman representing southern California, Porter has become famous for grilling powerful CEOs, and has raised questions about the energy required to create cryptocurrency and whether this energy use is contributing to the climate crisis. Porter joined Elizabeth Warren in 2022 to launch an investigation into whether cryptocurrency mining in Texas was having an impact on the states electrical grid and on electricity prices for ordinary consumers.

(3,402 posts)The reporter was playing gotcha games. Sorry that you are unable to see that. The modern so-called journalists do it to us all of the time. Sorry that you can't see that The Hill did a hatchet job on her there.
