A question for my D.U. neighbors.

You ready for Saturday I’m ready. Do these marches work i think they do send a message. Yet i wonder if a national strike would send a stronger signal and the oligarchs can’t buy their way out of a nationwide strike.
Most recently look at Disney and how they backed off not because it was the correct thing to do it was all over the dollar.
Three of us here will be going together and as before we have our gear packed and ready.
Goggles
Water
First aid supplies
Face rags in case of gas
Closed toe foot wear
I find some humor in that the three of us will be riding in my friend’s mini van to peacefully protest and we’re old ages 59-60-62.
My friend who is age 60 said bro I’m taking my fluid pill early like 04:00 so it’s through me. I replied once again you 19-Kilos are geniuses compared to us 11 bravos.
And yet we all are in agreement after we protest these parasites . We will hold our after operation debriefing at this Italian bakery for cannolis and coffee.
Hopefully they will not be sold out of pastries as it will be in the afternoon. If no pastries then plan B chicken parm off of the hot bar.
Be safe friends.

I am hoping that the little town where I'm planning to attend will have enough old hippies who recall Graham Nash's 'Chicago/We Can Change the World' That I can get a chant going. I'm tweaking/updating some of the lyrics, hope to post them so others can use them too.

is the song from Les Mis, Do you hear the people sing?

Probably won't need it because protests here seem to have plenty of good chants to march to but just in case we need to sing ???

ETA a question. Would wearing my guillotine necklace be considered provocative?

Collective action is emotionally uplifting. I enjoy being in the middle of a crowd of my fierce, funny, like-minded compatriots.

And I do think we can ultimately bring this horror show down if we resist together. Doing nothing is not an option.

There are people out there who are asking that we not only go to a protest, but that we designate October 18th as "buy nothing" day. It probably hasn't gotten as much attention as the No Kings protests, but together the two would be very powerful. Not everyone can go to a protest, but they can pledge not to buy a single thing, especially on Amazon.

I'll be doing both.

Can't believe how many planned events are on the https://www.nokings.org website! Looks like pretty much the entire country is going to be protesting!

I’m traveling. I would go if I were home. To be honest, the whole time I’ve been away, I’ve missed going to the protests in Chicago and Berwyn. It feels like I belong there and not on this trip : However, it was prepaid and my wife would kill me.

A big thank you to everyone who is going!! Stay safe.

You are likely going to be surprised at how many older folks are participating. Something that is seldom mentioned about protests is that it is a good place to network with like-minded folks. If you belong to a local party or progressive group, it's good to take some business cards and share them generously. People are generally starving for such connection and it makes our statement with these events much stronger when we are in unison and expanding.

Husband can't make it because he has another commitment that can't be moved to a different date. (In fact, he's going to be tied up all weekend.)

The protests in my sleepy little suburb have been very peaceful so far; lots of people with signs but drama free. I know that anything can happen in Schlump's America, but I feel pretty safe protesting out here. We're on the outermost edge of the Chicago suburbs, and I'm sure the attention of Schlump and his goons will be focused elsewhere on Saturday.

My favorite part of doing these things is being part of a big crowd of people who share my disgust at what Schlump is doing to this country. It's a fantastic feeling to know I have so much company!
