A petition on Change.org has surfaced in an effort to replace Bad Bunny, 31, with country music legend George Strait.
The Super Bowl halftime show is one of the most watched music performances worldwide, celebrating not just the sport but the cultural tapestry of America, the petition reads. In recent years, this performance has leaned increasingly towards modern pop and international artists. While this approach certainly broadens the audience, its pivotal to remember the roots that have made American music what it is today.

(1,858 posts)no one even knows if George Strait is available or even interested. So, how is this even a thing yet? I could understand it being petition worthy if G. Strait has said "Yes, I am available and I will do it.", but what were these morons thinking when they started a petition for G. Strait to perform if they have no idea of his level of interest - or even availability - to perform.

(3,164 posts)supporting Bad Bunny as the headliner for the half time show? Wonder how many signatures it would get?

Ah, memories of hush money payoffs seem so quaint now.

(45,976 posts)His Stadium Tour, which featured 17 shows in 2023 and 2024 earned over $259 million and drew almost 1 million attendees. One show, at Texas A&M, drew over 110,000 fans. The tour continued with a limited number of shows in 2025 and additional shows for 2026 were recently announced.
I'm not suggesting he should replace Bad Bunny -- he shouldn't. But Strait isn't Lee Greenwood, and he remains a successful, active performer.

Well then you're talking blues and jazz, certainly not country music.

But Bad Bunny has very high streaming numbers so looks like the NFL is going for maximum fan interest.

(68,919 posts)Also, the Super Bowl is never a regional event. No matter where it is played, most of the people there in person flew in to see it.
I'm actually rather surprised that you seem to have such a misunderstanding about this iconic U.S. event. Maybe your post was tongue in cheek.

The halftime show was Shakira and J-Lo...
That's because Miami is the Latin hotbed of the USA...
Maybe your post to me was in jest?
The HOST CITY certainly does suggest talent to the NFL
Los Angeles featured LA based rap artists...

(8,834 posts)35,000 signatures for a country artist who hasn't even managed to have a hit on the country charts in more than 6 years. Or one of the most popular musical artists on the planet who has had over 108 BILLION streams on Spotify during that same 6 year period.
There is a reason there has only ever been 1 Super Bowl Halftime show featuring country music artists. Country music does not have broad based appeal beyond an occasional song or artist. The only Country Music Halftime show was in 1994 for Super Bowl 28 (featuring Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt & The Judds). Rolling Stone rated it 27th out of the 36 halftime shows since 1990 which is around the time they started booking current popular music acts for the show.

(11,372 posts)Why would anyone expect a profit-oriented organization like the NFL to settle for less money by booking a lesser draw? More eyes on half-time means they can charge more for ads going forward, and the NFL is a bunch of corporate greed-heads IMHO. If they for a second thought that would be a bigger draw they'd replace Big Bunny in a heartbeat.
