General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI was thinking about that American flag with the swastica.
They're saying it's an optical illusion that only a camera can see and I was wondering if that's possible.
Then I remembered how a digital camera can see the infrared light from our remote controls. Indeed, that's how I test them.
Can it be that someone could use a paint that only reflects infrared light to cover up parts of the flag to form a swastica, being invisible except with a digital camera? I'm no scientist but if that's possible it was the burn of the year. I'd rather believe that than to think any sitting congressman would be so stupid as to hang a Nazi symbol on the office wall and have a presser. This way I can laugh at him instead of being angry
Has anyone else seen an explanation?

(16,159 posts)Hang that particular flag. I'm sure he gets lots and lots of flags every year. Why is that the flag that got hung?
If it's possible for what you said to happen, they did it themselves in order to hang it.

(20,457 posts)Sure, you can say he's a Nazi and he's so proud that he hung a Swastica flag and called the press in, but that stretches the bounds of imagination. No where on his Wikki does he say he loves Nazis, which is odd because you say he keeps a flag on the wall for everyone to see.
I'm not on his side here, but I believe he was pranked because he is enabling Fascists, and he deserved it.. I believe it was ingenious. Several other republicans report getting the flag "donated" to their offices but Turner was the first to put in on camera.

(20,457 posts)...let us not cloud logic with hate. We're getting to a point that we can discount any scientific explanation because it doesn't fit our beliefs.
Ask yourself why no one in the media is going after him. Why isn't democratic leadership moving for his removal on the grounds he is a confirmed Nazi?
Take another look at the image as posted, not the one online that someone added black outlines to define the symbol. Clearly it just doesn't look quite right and my theory that a camera can see infrared light that is invisible to human eyes makes more sense than him proudly posting a swastika.

#1 - It was a staffer
#2 - It doesn't look right bc there is a goddamn nazi symbol in the middle.
It isn't my hate that is clouding my vision. It is my vision that is clarifying their hate.

(2,637 posts)Some light moves faster than others and make American flags look like nazi symbols.
There are resonances and frequencies of light that can only be manipulated by the right. They have powerful spells that and we, the left, are so stuck in the materialist, empirical mindset that we believe our senses. We need to use remote controls and camera and ouija boards to even attempt to understand the nature of that.
Don't let your hate delude you. It is a perfectly normal flag, what you see is a trick of the light caused by psychic phenomenon.

(20,457 posts)It's easy to say he plays right into your hand of deep rooted hatred by proudly showing his colors online then denying it for some reason.
Notice that the media knows it's a prank or it would be a big deal elsewhere than just social media. The democratic leadership knows as well or they would be screaming about it and calling for removal for being a confirmed flag flying Nazi.
If you look at the pic as posted instead of the doctored one that uses a black outline to make it easier to see, it's obvious something is amiss. It's a fact that digital cameras see light that is invisible to our eyes.

(26,217 posts)Logic is a one way street. Believe your eyes and don't assume a trick of the light. You didn't dream the image.
"Something is amiss" yeah -- we have nazis in government. And they don't hide it because it activates a portion of their base. Its like a dog whistle, except everyone can hear it.
Just because you can see it doesn't make you magic. It just makes it very, very mundane.

(156 posts)The truth, basically, simply is.
You have to make up lies like Nazism/Fascism or excuses to cover for Nazis, which is being done in this thread.
I wouldn't even call it "world class trolling."
It's just that the forces of reaction and their water carriers haven't caught up yet: everyone is on to this shit. The jig is up.

(1,324 posts)My guess is something like a staffer or intern was being a troll or is a nazi. As you said, there's little reason to think an elected official would hang up that flag for so little gain and so much risk. But without there being something that really hides the swastika from the human eye, someone put that flag up intentionally.
But then again, people are sometimes very very stupid, so I can't entirely discount it being the representative. But it makes more logical sense that it was someone lower putting it in their cubicle or office where it could go unnoticed.

Dave Taylor's staffer pinned his up on a corkboard, next to another normal-striped US flag and it stayed there for months.
