New York Times accused of 'sanewashing' Trump post with report on dumping 'brown liquid'
https://www.rawstory.com/trump-nyt-sanewashing-brown-liquid/
Donald Trump posted an AI video in which "King Trump" can be seen dumping feces from a fighter jet onto protesters, but the New York Times is catching flak for its coverage of the post.
The president shocked political analysts and experts with an AI video he posted this weekend. Trump late Saturday night dropped a new Artificial Intelligence video in which "King Trump" is shown flying a jet in a crown and dumping feces on "No Kings" protesters, leading some to call into question his sanity.
Now, the Times is being criticized for its portrayal of the video.
In an article called, "Trump Posts Fake Video of Himself Flying a King Trump Jet Over Protesters," the Times argued, "President Trump shared what appeared to be an A.I.-generated video on social media. It shows Mr. Trump wearing a crown and flying a jet that dumps brown liquid on demonstrators."

(21,457 posts)You know, some of us are sick and tired of NYT's "Move along, move along. Nothing to see here" attitude when there's a whole hell of a lot to see and be aware of here. Perhaps it's from cowardice that the NYT's shrinks from being on the right side of history. Or, perhaps those running the gray lady really have no problem with fascism American style.

(12,412 posts)and reacted negatively to trump's posts.
Others think that if the media doesn't explicitly say before every sentence "Remember trump is a POS" or something similar, that readers are too stupid to react properly to trump's BS.
I'd be interested in what large media you frequent?

(21,457 posts)And don't go to extremes in your response, i.e. "explicitly say before every sentence." That's a little strawman-ish, no? Ever heard of normalizing? That's the rub.
And seriously, how far does Trump have to go before NYT and others throw up their hands and admit he's bat shit? Instead, they bend over backwards to give legitimacy to the ravings of a lunatic. "Well, some in the administration are saying this", when "this" is so untethered from reality it's certifiably. If the "this" is "Portland is a war zone", the rational response is, no, it's most certainly not. Been there. It's fine. We don't know what on earth he's talking about. But that's not what we get. What we get is legitimization of crazed lunacies as though they're valid points. They're not.

Ever heard of a libel suit?
The previous poster is correct. Too many people here are angry because the news media don't echo their own thoughts, if not words, about The Felon and his Misadministration. They don't seem to understand the great responsibility that accompanies a cobstitutionally free press.
Legitimate news media are duty-bound to report and opine only that which they're certain to be true. This is why the NYT described what came out of AI Drumpf's airplane as "brown liquid" tather than "feces." One can asdume it was feces, but assumption is the bane of every legitimate reporter's occupation.
Learn to think like an editor and an attorney, because they go together in at least one sense: if you can't prove it in court, you shouldn't put it in the paper.

(425 posts)For some, blind allegiance to legacy media seems to be the most important issue of our time. Im not sure what this statement is meant to argue? Are we trying to chill criticism on the basis that disagreement exists? I guess we should have no problem with the Dobbs decision overturning Roe because the Supreme Court would have been criticized no matter what they did? If, more charitably, you are saying that the NYT will never be good enough for some of us, that might be true, but it doesnt directly respond to the sanewashing accusations here. Being the target of the hypercritical does not by itself shield one from all criticism.

(1,092 posts)don't know that the nickname "Gray Lady" comes from the days before offset printing, when graphics/picture reproduction in a newspaper involved an expensive, multi-step process, with nasty chemicals and acids, to create an image plate for letterpress. So the NYT front page was often an expansive field of nothing but gray type without pictures of any kind, hence "Gray Lady." (I think I've dated myself here.)

You'd be reading and go "HUH?" And he was a frequent guest on MSNBC, which made me like him even less. When I dropped the sub I wrote that I was doing so over Baker...not that they cared, of course, but I did tell them.

(195 posts)King Trump took a jet for a ride,
With a crown and some ego to guide.
He dumped from the sky,
On protesters nearby
A brown rain he could barely hide.
In a video proudly displayed,
Where AI and delusion parade,
He soared through the mist,
With a fecal-armed fist
A monarch of memes poorly made.
The Times tried to soften the blow,
Calling filth just a "brown liquid" show.
Their phrasing quite neat,
Sanewashed the tweet,
While readers said, "Come on, we know."
The protesters shouted, "No kings!"
But Trump had some airborne flings.
From his fantasy throne,
He let judgment be flown
In jets full of crappy misgivings.
The press tried to walk a fine line,
Between satire and sewage in brine.
But with liquid so vague,
They entered a plague
Of readers who rolled eyes online.
With a digital flush from above,
He rained down what none could call love.
Yet headlines so clean,
Masked the obscene
As though filth wore a velvet glove.
Thats great!

(2,069 posts)I'm not defending the NYT article. It's just a theory based on observation. If you don't want to get sued then don't write anything except exactly what is said, done or shown. That's from a layman. The Felon loves to put lawyers he's already paying to work. He knows the reaction he'll get before he's outrageous. He counts on it.
He knows what it is, we know what it is, the NYT knows what it is. But, in a courtroom when the NYT is being sued, the Felon's lawyers are going to say, "prove it".

(42,371 posts)I was listening to Heather Cox Richardson and she brought up the point that it was Eisenhower who started the process for the 25th Amendment. It happened after Eisenhower realized its necessity after he was ill for some time.
She puts out her theory that what Swalwell is doing when he says that there might be a "jail break" with republican senators is that he is trying to shake a few more loose.
