Major internet outage hits websites, apps and Lloyds Bank after issue at Amazon Web Services

A major internet outage has hit dozens of popular websites, online games and apps.

Users have been reporting problems accessing sites such as Amazon, Roblox, Fortnite and Snapchat, for example, this morning.

The outage may be related to a glitch at Amazon Web Services (AWS), the e-commerce giant’s on-demand cloud computing platform which underpins many online operations.

AWS has reported an ‘operational issue’ at its data centre in North Virginia, known as “us-east-1”.

I would have figured the company that hosts fully half of the world's busiest websites could handle the loss of a single data center, even if it is one of the biggest.

Bad look for Bezos, given that AWS is his main moneymaker.

it may be beneficial to diversify options with their competitors. I was just thinking the other day that Northern Virginia data centers are a tempting target for enemies who wants to harm America.

Ironically, Bezos saw that one coming and bent the knee to Trump.

so he licks boots to win some sweet cloud contracts from the US government in this term. Money is honey. Plenty of billionaire tech bros did the same to win sweet contracts for AI and software and other services.
