I had a lovely encounter today at Costco, with an employee.

We were running low on household paper goods (tp, kleenex, paper towels) and I wanted to stock up before my surgery happens. We don't have a date yet, but we will, soon. I want to be ready!

Anyway. The person at the door who checks your receipt asked me if I'd like some help getting the load into my car. I said "Sure!" She hollered at a guy in a Costco vest who came over and we walked out to my car.

Got the trunk open and he started loading stuff in. I offered to tip him but he said he couldn't accept it; he'd get in trouble! I said I was sorry to hear that but I sure did appreciate his very timely help. He even took my cart!

He brightened my day and I hope I brightened his.

Just had their salmon for supper. Not cheap, but it is absolutely the best. Restaurant quality. Their hamburger is the best. (5 pounds in 1 pound portions). No need to drain the fat off.

Their gasoline is tier one, at sale prices. I have been using the optical department for a decade or more, and they are not a discount outfit. I wear Stetson frames and I have advanced lenses. The doctor was recommended by the doctor who did my cataract surgery. Never had my glasses fitted better, and I have been wearing glasses for over 70 years!
They are just the best

In both places I was asked if I wanted help loading my car and I said, “Yes!” TJ’s got me used to it, and if the employee at Costco forgot, I knew I could ask.

What a blessing. They even pushed my cart.

After I recovered and was no longer leaning heavily on a cane, I went up to the manager’s desk at TJ’s and told them just how much it had meant to me. I can’t remember if I tried to find someone at Costco (it’s so much bigger and more complex) but I hope I did.

Best of luck and restored health to you, Dear Peggy, and accept all the help you need getting there.

they are the best of the best...well, most of them. wink

The customers though. I don't know why but the Concord (CA) Costco has the meanest and nastiest customers ever. Just trying to get a parking space there is a battle of wits. People speeding around to get a spot! It's so bad, I wish I had another Costco I could go to closer, but alas.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful exchange to remind us that there are good people in this world still and Costco has some of the finest employees around here. I dread shopping there but they have some of the best offers out and I like that they take care of their employees with a good salary and benefits. Haven't been to Walmart in decades because of their business practices and how awful they treat their employees. Less pay, not enough hours for benefits, employees get on SNAP benefits, which is wage theft to me.

Thanks for sharing something positive in this world today. hugs .xx

I went there once, oh so long ago, just to check it out; I thought it was just like another Sam's Club.
Which really never suited me, Walmart will do for what I need and I do not need to fill out forms for the membership. My company even provides a substantial discount for the Sam's Club or it might even be Costco...Does Costco require a membership? I thought both of those stores required an extra annual fee.
But after your story, I may give Costco another try even though it is quite a bit further of a drive.
Lovely tale, dear Peggy; I wish you the best on your upcoming surgery.
