Because they know the truth.
They were in the Capitol on January 6th. Since then, they have been trying to re-write history by telling Trump's narrative over and over. They are scared to death of the truth.
Jack Smith has offered to testify in front of the Senate and House Judiciary.
But, that is the last thing that Donald Trump would want. The truth would be like a stake thru the heart.

This would be humorous in a 3rd grade way except it's so tragic.

Competent, intelligent, reserved, principled, dedicated, experienced international attorney and getting no better support than what he did. I just hope he is resilient and full of forgiveness.
We really failed him as a country. It's an embarrassing turn of events. I'm not sure I would be able to be that quick to forgive if I was in his shoes. He must have an incredible amount of internal fortitude.
A fly-by would be hard to ignore without it.
Thanks for the reply, erronis. ❤️

I still wish he had turned over everything he discovered in his investigations the very minute he saw the handwriting on the wall.

Speaking out publicly without that would risk further harassment / prosecution by current traitor-in-chief.

(42,768 posts)They want a behind closed doors secret questioning so the bad lawyers there -- who aren't even fit to stand in the same courtroom with Jack Smith -- can cherry pick and pervert his words to serve their re-write of January 6 history.
They want to record the session, then AI the recording to serve up lies as part of their trumpian political menace.

We not only have a political and cultural menace in the White House, we have a media that cowers to him and his sycophants. We cannot trust that Jack Smith's testimony would be accurately conveyed to the American people. Those of us who keep up know the score. But most Americans do not keep up or are hopelessly brainwashed at this point.
These are not normal times. In normal times, public testimony would reap benefits. In this bizarro timeline, the effect will be dampened and muddied. Not a reason not to do it, but don't expect a sea change in public opinion because of it.
