3. Yeah. That was my first thought. Of course there has been some satire in films, but most are documentaries

and they do anything BUT hide the horror, sadism, monstrous nature of the Third Reich. In my lifetime, the question is always HOW could the German people have turned a blind eye--thus leading so many of us to redouble our efforts today when we see ANYTHING similar. Those few mocking satires in film are a coping mechanism for society at large, but it is against the enormous decades of truthful films and documentaries. The fear today is that at least one generation may not be seeing those films and documentaries, leaving them susceptible to the horrific lies on the web from those who intend to manipulate them. But normalization? Only by these horrific pro-Nazi factions that seek to do so for their own aims.

6. Though Nazis are still mostly considered supreme evil, to a certain extent I agree that they.

have been used so much as a symbol of evil that they have become a caricature and most people don't have a visceral reaction to them anymore.

Also I think definitely our society, our films, have glorified criminals like mobsters too much.

Another example is "Breaking Bad"-- it was a great show but ultimately it glorified and normalized criminality.

I think we need to concentrate on individual accountability, bad choices and knucklehead mistakes rather than leaning into excuses for the why's and whatfors.

I don't have any horse in the Maine race because I live in Delaware. But from what I've read Platner is well-educated, comes from a well-heeled family and really has no excuse for Nazi tattoos, bigoted language or hateful comments.

The ultimate decision on Platner's comments and behavior is up to the citizens of Maine. But the man definitely comes with baggage for which he's responsible. I don't care how many movies he watched. As an educated young man, he made educated choices.

They were reckless and hateful ones. From my perspective, he's one and done.
