Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI'm stunned that a clueless knob like Rep. Mark Alford (R-MO) can actually get elected to Congress.
I am not going to post the entire article, House Republican bristles during fiery exchange with CNN anchor, because it's just one more "Republican goes on CNN and recites the current litany of talking points" fiasco. If you want to read it, you've got the link.
I'm posting this because of ONE LINE from Alford, "They are using this as leverage."
Here's the deal. What WE know...what REPUBLICANS know...what DEMOCRATS in the House and Senate know...
...is that if the ACA / ObamaCare Tax Credits are allowed to expire, insurance premiums for around 24 million people will double or triple. This will obviously result in people dropping coverage, because they can't afford it, and the insurance companies will raise rates on those who remain, which potentially would result in even MORE people dropping coverage.
...and that doesn't even address the MEDICAID CUTS in Trump's Big Bullshit Bill.
...and we're supposed to be TOO STUPID TO KNOW that the REASON that Democrats are "using the shutown" as "leverage" against Republicans is:
1). WHATEVER "PAIN" AMERICANS ARE FEELING IS LESS THAN THE "PAIN" THEY"LL FEEL IF THE BILL GOES THROUGH "AS IS," and
2). Republicans have consistently and aggressively remained "on message" about this ALL BEING THE FAULT of DEMOCRATS, and I don't think a single Republican CARES about Americans in pain. I think they're concerned about the COUNTER-MESSAGE from DEMOCRATS, which is what I outlined above, will RESONATE with voters, MORE of them will UNDERSTAND what Trump and the REPUBLICANS want to DO to them, and this will AFFECT VOTER TURNOUT and Republican "victories" in NEXT YEAR'S MIDTERMS.
If I missed anything or stated anything in error, I'm open to hearing it, but I think I dotted every "I" and crossed every "T" when it comes to REPUBLICAN "MESSAGING" on the shutdown.

(8,481 posts)Most racists know better. The vast majority do. They choose to be this way and inflict injustice on the targets of their myriad bigotries. Most of today's GOP politicians are just gaslighting racists using the language of politics.
Lee Atwater described this as he prepared to meet his maker.
