Kyle Griffin @kylegriffin1The Pentagon accepted an anonymous $130 million donation to help pay troops' salaries.
Fiscal policy experts are questioning the legality of the move.
"In general, you may not spend money that has been donated because the Constitution and the Anti-Deficiency Act say that you can't spend money unless you have an appropriation to make it happen."

(11,066 posts)Nepo baby Mellon believes Americans should starve.
According to wiki
Mellon gave $227 million to federal candidates and political committees from January 2020 through June 2024, nearly all of it to Republicans.[17] As of August 2024, he had donated $165 million in the 2024 elections.[23] Mellon's self-published 2015 autobiography describes his political views.[38][39] Notably, it calls social safety net programs "Slavery Redux", asserting that its beneficiaries are beholden to "a new master, Uncle Sam". Mellon writes:
For delivering their votes in the Federal Elections, they are awarded with yet more and more freebies: food stamps, cellphones, WIC [the U.S. Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children] payments, Obamacare, and on, and on, and on. The largess is funded by the hardworking folks, fewer and fewer in number, who are too honest or too proud to allow themselves to sink into this morass. Something had obviously gone dreadfully wrong with the Great Society and the Liberal onslaught. Poor people had become no less poor. Black people, in spite of heroic efforts by the "Establishment" to right the wrongs of the past, became even more belligerent and unwilling to pitch in to improve their own situations. ... Drugs rose to the level of epidemic. Single parent families became more and more prevalent. The likes of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton pandered endlessly to fan the flames.[38][34]

A little fascism here, a little totalitarianism there.
Break a little law...
Similarly to the Pentagons legally disputed move last week to redirect $8 billion from its research and development accounts to cover military pay, the use of private funds raises concerns government agencies can spend federal funds only as appropriated by Congress and spending in the absence of appropriations is constitutionally prohibited.

At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.
