Even Mainstream Pundits Are Now Saying, Republicans 'No Longer a Normal Governing Party,' 'Unfit for Government'
Outrage is growing over Republican sabotage of … well, everything.

Outrage is growing over Republican sabotage of … well, everything.

E. J. Dionne Jr. in the Washington Post, writing in It’s our system on the cliff, (emphasis added, for emphasis)

The United States faces a crisis in our political system because the Republican Party, particularly in the House of Representatives, is no longer a normal, governing party.

The only way we will avoid a constitutional crackup is for a new, bipartisan majority to take effective control of the House and isolate those who would rather see the country fall into chaos than vote for anything that might offend their ideological sensibilities.

Michael Tomasky at The Daily Beast, in The GOP Brings Politics to a Crisis Point,

Really, what is to be done about this Republican Party? What force can change it—can stop Republicans from being ideological saboteurs and convert at least a workable minority of them into people interested in governing rather than sabotage? … They are a direct threat to the economy, which could slip back into recession next year if the government doesn’t, well, govern. They are an ongoing, at this point almost mundane, threat to democracy, subverting and preventing progress the American people clearly desire across a number of fronts. They have to be stopped, and the only people who can really stop them are corporate titans and Wall Streeters, who surely now are finally beginning to see that America’s problem is not Barack Obama and his alleged “socialism,” but a political party that has become psychologically incapable of operating within the American political system.

. . . They didn’t come to Washington to govern. They came to sabotage. So our working assumption must be whatever the issue, sabotage is what they’re going to do.

The rich and powerful have created a monster that has gotten out of control and is beginning to threaten the very domain they were looking to lord over.

See here the almost indentical plot from the old movie being played out before our eyes.

Waldman tells them that Frankenstein has been working on creating life. Elizabeth, intent on rescuing Frankenstein, arrives just as Henry is making his final tests. He tells them to watch, claiming to have discovered the ray that brought life into the world. They all watch Frankenstein and the hunchback as they raise the dead creature on an operating table, high into the room, toward an opening at the top of the laboratory. Then a terrific crash of thunder, the crackling of Frankenstein's electric machines, and the hand of Frankenstein's monster (Boris Karloff) begins to move. This causes Frankenstein to shout 'It's alive!'

Through the incompetence of Fritz, a criminal brain was secured for Frankenstein's experiments instead of the desired normal one. The manufactured monster, despite its grotesque form, initially appears not to be a malevolent beast but a simple, innocent creation. Frankenstein welcomes it into his laboratory and asks his creation to sit, which it does. He then opens up the roof, causing the monster to reach out towards the sunlight. Fritz,

I'm seeing the Koch brothers and their ilk as the mad scientist w/ Karl Rove as the Hunchback....it would be funny if not so threatening to humankind.

suggesting that some GOP congressmen need to change parties. Talk of defecting to the Dems or going independent might shake things up. It would be an interesting way for the Dems to regain the majority so some governing could actually take place.

so no one previously unconvinced is going to sit up and take notice because they are calling out the idiots but Sullivan and Mckinnon might be a different matter. We can always hope.

at the time of Nixon, the GOP became the party of the US Chamber of Commerce, and the super rich. Anything for a corporation to make more money, and anything help a millionaire keep all of his money. And anything they could do within the government to make their friends more money with tax breaks and contracts. These three goals have ruled the GOP since Reagan, and what we have today is what happens when a party that has to lie and steal and cheat to fool people and make those goals, runs out of lies and justifications, and came to believe their own rhetoric, until they have no sane reason to push their agenda. An agenda that has proven, since the time of Reagan, to bring ruin to America. But the GOP doesn't care.
