Looks like Minneapolis is telling ICE to fuck right off.

https://www.minneapolismn.gov/news/2025/december/mayor-executive-order/

Today, Mayor Jacob Frey signed an Executive Order prohibiting federal, state, and local agencies from using any City-owned parking lots, ramps, garages, or vacant lots to stage civil immigration enforcement operations. The order also directs City staff to design a signage template for local businesses and property owners who want to show their support for immigrants and mark their property as off-limits for these activities.

Federal immigration authorities previously used municipal lots to stage operations in Chicago before the city issued a similar executive order, and community members in Minneapolis have recommended that Mayor Frey ensure the same does not happen here.

The mayor’s order comes after recent credible media reports outlining the Trump administration’s plans to target Somali immigrants in the Twin Cities. The mayor has been clear: Minneapolis will not waver in its commitment to protect the rights and safety of all people, regardless of immigration status.

“Minneapolis is — and will remain — a city that stands up for our residents,” said Mayor Jacob Frey. “City parking lots need to be used for City purposes, which do not include civil immigration enforcement. There’s no place in our Minneapolis for fear-based tactics or operations that undermine community trust. This Executive Order makes it clear: City parking lots, ramps, garages, and vacant lots cannot and will not be used to stage civil immigration enforcement operations.”

Minneapolis is at least 100 miles from Lake Superior. More like 130 to Duluth. Or is the Mississippi River part of our coastline? Or is ICE free to roam anywhere?

they had to try hard to break this rule. I think the only place ICE should legally be allowed to operate in Minnesota is airports.

ICE's job is to detain and remove the undocumented immigrants who got past Border Patrol, or who overstayed visas. Obviously both agencies have been exceeding their statutory mandates.

since the Canadian border within the lakes isn't the US shore. And Lake Michigan is entirely within the US. So why does Border Patrol have jurisdiction 100 miles inland from Lake Michigan?

Hola Arepa in Minneapolis was heading into dinner rush Wednesday night, when two plain-clothed individuals entered the restaurant, saying they're from the Department of Homeland Security, General Manager Naomi Rathke said.

"Whipped out a badge really quickly and then flashed a photo of someone on their phone, and then they said, 'We're looking for this person.'" Rathke said. "I said, 'This person doesn't work here.' They had said, 'Well, we see her in the back right now.' And I said, 'That person is not here.'"

Rathke refused to let the men into the restaurant's back of house.

"They said, 'We don't need a warrant.' I said, 'Yes, you do.'" Rathke said.

. . .

Hola Arepa closed early that night and safely escorted employees to their cars. Surveillance cameras also captured ICE leaving the restaurant's lot the morning before, Nguyen said.

. . . According to the National Immigration Law Center, ICE needs a judicial warrant to enter a private area of a business, whereas an administrative warrant does not allow agents to enter private areas without permission.

That may not have an issue with helping the ICE goons with lodging and/or food. Then, those animals can just stage there, travel into the Twin Cities, and be assholes.

I sincerely hope that none of the adjacent areas will be that accommodating to them. I hope the entire state says'GTFO!'.
