I respectfully disagree with your statement, "It will never get bad enough for them". It can and probably will.

Your statement is vintage 2025, but not applicable in 2026. I'm not kidding anyone. I'm not talking Great Recession of 2008. I'm talking worse than the 1929 to '32 Great Crash. I'm talking the collapse of the AI investment mania bubble. The entire banking system crashes. Mass unemployment and literal starvation across the country, but worse in the red states than blue. Then those 10s of millions of hateful, etc. Rs will show up with torches and pitch forks looking for the people they elected.

And what will Trump's reaction be? It will be the same as Hoover's - none. It's all Joe Biden's fault after all. It's the greatest economy ever seen. At that point, in order to protect themselves, the Republicans will force out Trump and the worst of his toadies. If we are lucky that will be before mass armed rioting and looting breaks out. We will need the military in the streets at that point.

I hope I am wrong. But the country was in the state I just described when FDR was elected. He pulled us back from the brink. Can history repeat itself? I'm not especially optimistic.
