When someone asks you, "Why are you a Democrat?"

Or, "Why do you vote for Democrats?", what has your answer been?

My answer is pretty simple. I care about other people, the environment, democracy, education, healthcare, human rights, and common decency. The Republican party is on the regressive side of ALL those issues. And they have only gotten worse since the Trump virus has hollowed out the GOP.

I went to college on the G.I. Bill. Thanks, FDR.
My health care is pretty well covered by Medicare. Thanks, LBJ.
I get help with retirement due to Social Security. Thanks, FDR.

I can't think of any financial benefit that derived from Repugs. Wait, oh yeah, I can make tax-free charitable donations from my IRA. Thanks, GWB.

" I want to belong to the party where when it is suspected that a group of rich assholes abused underaged girls wants the files released regardless of whether some of 'their people' get caught up in it".

What greater contrast is there between the majority of Democrats that would be happy to condemn Bill Clinton if it turned out he did anything wrong versus the majority of Republicans who are still happy to support Trump despite the mountains of evidence that he abuses women and girls?

• When every person
a. is guaranteed rights, opportunity, and equity,
b. can make a good living,
c. is respected,
then all benefit and the nation benefits.
• Government invests in its citizens.
• Labor and innovation create wealth.
• Productivity gains are shared with those who are less blessed than others.
• Government is by the people and for the people.
• The legal system protects rights, especially of minorities.
In short: equality, honor and fairness.

OPTIONAL FOR EXTRA CREDIT:
The thugs believe in the converse.
• Money and power are concentrated in the hands of a few.
• Business grows by monopoly aggregation and by stifling competition.
• Freedom means no regulation. Nothing more.
• Government enforces "the economic order" (a caste system)
• Workers and voters are kept from uniting, chiefly by a divide and conquer strategy, i.e culture wars.
• Welfare for the rich. The fraud called "Trickle Down" really means "golden showers". (wink, wink)
In short: inequality, arrogance and privilege (and racism, racism, and racism, and .. you know the rest )

Republican isn't even an option. It isn't even within spitting distance of being an option. Not even on the option horizon.
