(4,108 posts)sister lived in California. She remembers it as one of the high points. "Everything is made out of flowers", she says that with admiration!

(5,715 posts)My feet still haven't recovered.
Other than remembering thinking "When will this end?", my other memory was the Salvation Army having a food truck with coffee, cocoa (this being 1968, kids rarely drank coffeee), and donuts.
I haven't watched this year's parade yet, but I always remember it being lovely weather on TV while the rest of the country looked on in envy.

(24,216 posts)For instance, one float this year had giant ants and they were made with black beans. The amount of work that goes into this parade is amazing!

(4,443 posts)Announcer 1: Here comes Dorothy and the munchins...
Ann 2: Yes - the yellow brick road is spaghetti squash and the grass next to it is broccoli crowns
Parade ends with forks and ranch dressing.

(112,730 posts)and a nostalgic wave came over me, along with some tears. Not because of the Rose Bowl or either team playing, but just the remembrance of the Mamas & the Papas. So, there is that..

(33,106 posts)This once upon a time California girl (1965-88) had an aunt and uncle who lived in Pasadena. It NEVER rained on the Rose Parade. One of the announcers just said it had rained twice on the parade in the last 70 years!

(5,715 posts)is dealing with his first holiday season without his mom (who passed away last year at 94).
Every year when the parade was over, his mom would call him from LA to say she'd "just watched the parade, and weren't you in it in 1969?" getting the year wrong every time.
As he was watching the parade and missing his mom, his older sister called and asked "Weren't you in it in 1969?"
The tradition continues
