When I was growing up in Switzerland, my best friend was a boy from Trinidad, whose parents were of Swiss and Trinidadian/Venezuelan ancestry. He, his two siblings, and their parents were close to my parents and I by the time we moved back to the U.S. My family lost track of his decades ago, but the last we heard of them, they were living in Caracas. They may still be there now.

The possibility that they may now be under attack, and from my country, is almost too hard to bear.

May Trump and his minions be damned to hell.
