Venezuela action on the basis that the citizens were being repressed and more democracy was needed need to pull their heads out of their backsides or else be prepared to call for the same immediate military action in Hungary, Turkey, Russia, China etc. So now we see the doctrine of the New Colonialists. Demand the natural resources of another country through threat and intimidation and if we don't get those resources we will invade militarily, cause destruction and take over the country.
Every elected official who supports what was done here should either resign immediately or be forced to justify why their "imposition of improved democracy" is so selectively employed. The gutless display of supporting an action like this on a weak nation while not having the balls to do so against a stronger nation is clear evidence of conditional ethics and false bravado and in the end serves as proof of what our critics in the developing world say about the United States always talking out of both sides of the mouth and why we should never be trusted.
The facts are now clear that we are a pariah among nations and the peril of US involvement with nations is great and to their detriment. We have no moral ground to criticize Russia for invading Ukraine. That has all been swept away now. We have no moral ground to say a single word of criticism to China. All swept away in one action by a crook and a tin pot wannabe dictator. I certainly didn't expect so many elected officials to be so stupid or craven as to line up behind this action.

My fear is this is the tipping point and we will have abandoned the fiction that we are "The Shining City On The Hill" and double down on our Deplorability and go for broke.
They have destroyed our credibility and we will not recover for generations.
It's truly sad that Joe has to see this after all his efforts to restore our reputation.
