Bari Weiss approved unverified, un-fact-checked story about Ross' "internal bleeding" despite network concerns

A report from anonymous sources claiming ICE agent Jonathan Ross suffered internal bleeding after fatally shooting 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good more than a week ago faced skepticism from CBS News staff but received approval from editor in chief Bari Weiss, a report states.

According to the Guardian, two senior network officials questioned the reporting's credibility due to missing crucial details. Their concerns were dismissed during the approval process.

Before publication, internal dissension emerged over the claim. A medical producer suggested via email that the report should clarify "what type of treatment he received" and whether the officer underwent surgery or other procedures.

CBS News senior vice president David Reiter objected to rushing the story into print without additional verification. He noted, "I'm no doctor, but internal bleeding is a very broad term and can range in severity. A bruise is internal bleeding. But it can also be something serious. We do know that the ICE agent walked away from the incident—we have that on camera."

4. I'm thinking that airing an unverified conspiracy theory is the most irresponsible thing a news chief can do

As an old dude I get internal bleeding every day out in the garden. And I don’t see a car hit any part of his body.

5. .. It was viewed as a thinly-veiled, anonymous leak by the Trump administration to someone who'd carry it online."

As the read the OP--I was wondering WHO put the story out in the first place!!
I do believe--as the story indicates--it was the Trump goons who put the story out.
But Ross is in big trouble once this story plays out--and it could be long time for that to happen.
So much corruption by the WH that it is hard to keep up with, --but hoping the news media digs deeper and keeps the pressure on!!

.....One CBS News staffer characterized the internal reaction: "There was big internal dissension about the 'internal bleeding' report here last night. It was viewed as a thinly-veiled, anonymous leak by the Trump administration to someone who'd carry it online."

The incident reflects broader newsroom dysfunction following Weiss's appointment. Her CBS Evening News relaunch has been marked by controversial statements, on-air missteps, and declining viewership.

6. I read the story as you did, and my conclusion was that the "anonymous leak" was most likely Cheung.

I'm imagining the conversations that most likely took place...or maybe it was just imagined conversations in Weiss' head...about her having an "exclusive connection" to the White House for "scoops" no one else was going to get.

This is why Maggie Haberman from the NYT has been on the receiving end of so much heat during the 2 "Trump administrations"...we can believe what we want to believe, but "word on the street" is that her "journalistic integrity" has suffered on occasion because of her addiction to "having access to Trump." And we know that for reporters...especially female reporters...if they don't want to be called "stupid and nasty" and countless other things by Trump, they just report what's handed to them, without questioning its accuracy or truthfulness.

Seems like Bari Weiss won't have any problems in that regard.
