GOP congressman predicts what could 'end' Trump's presidency

Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) is taking searing aim at President Donald Trump’s fixation on acquiring Greenland.

In an interview with the Omaha World-Herald on Wednesday, Bacon described talk of taking over the autonomous territory as “utter buffoonery.” He also warned the president of bipartisan impeachment efforts if he decides to invade.

“If he went through with the threats, I think it would be the end of his presidency,” Bacon said. “And he needs to know: The off-ramp is realizing Republicans aren’t going to tolerate this and he’s going to have to back off. He hates being told no, but in this case, I think Republicans need to be firm.”

Bacon — who has expressed criticism of the president on a handful of issues, most recently including a criminal investigation of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell — voted against all of the articles of impeachment against Trump during his first term. He told the Omaha World-Herald, however, that he would lean in favor of doing so if Trump’s idea came to fruition.

Some of them may retrieve their honor.

Trump relies upon people who fear and by people who find him useful.

If anything could get republicans to impeach and remove Trump, it would be an invasion of another NATO country that resulted severe economic consequences for numerous multibillion dollar US companies (Apple, Amazon, Tesla, McDonalds), throwing the US and likely the world into a deep economic depression.

It would also result in corporate donations to republicans evaporating for the foreseeable future.

Nobody except a few crazed zealots wants to see the US invade Greenland.

The staging of such an invasion would be telegraphed widely before it was launched (as was the case with Venezuela), with troop and ship movements easily tracked. This would likely give congress time to pass a war powers resolution (NATO is way different from Venezuela, so no one should compare them), and send an emissary (I nominate Lindsey Graham!) to have a Goldwater-Nixon chat with Trump about the consequences he faces if he gives the order to invade.

I think it why we have seen him desperately seeking the least embarrassing off ramp, pivoting to threatening NATO members with tariff hikes if they don’t support his plans- it’s stage 1 of a typical TACO reversal.

You'd consider impeaching if he invaded another country but NOT another state in your very own country.

Does Bacon not see what is happening in our own country that he isn't not bother to think it IS an impeachable offense?

Does Bacon approve of what ice is doing to Americans?

Does Bacon value Greenland over the United States of America?

It appears America has been invaded by their own government and apparently no one cares within the republican party.
