Virginians for Fair Elections -- the "Yes" Campaign -- Launches to Level the Playing Field for Virginia
RICHMOND, VA — Today, Virginians for Fair Elections, the campaign urging Virginians to vote YES on the proposed redistricting amendment, officially launched a statewide effort to protect fair representation and level the playing field for Virginia’s 2026 congressional elections.
The constitutional amendment would give Virginia voters — not politicians — the final say on whether the Commonwealth’s congressional maps are fair, transparent, and representative of voters’ voices amid unprecedented political manipulation by Trump and MAGA-controlled legislatures to rig their maps. The measure, taken with reluctance, would be a temporary, emergency exception — and Virginia’s bipartisan redistricting commission would automatically resume full authority after the 2030 census.
As states like Texas, Ohio, North Carolina, and soon Florida move to redraw congressional maps without voter approval, Virginians face the real risk of having their voices diminished in Washington. This amendment gives Virginians the power to protect fair representation before it’s too late for the Commonwealth.
“Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy, and right now, they’re under threat,” said Kéren Charles Dongo, Campaign Manager for Virginians for Fair Elections. “We wish we didn’t have to take this step. But with Donald Trump pressuring MAGA-controlled legislatures to rig their maps, this temporary, emergency exception will keep Virginia’s elections fair until every state plays by the same rules — and make sure the people, not politicians, decide how Virginia’s voice is heard in Congress.”
