David Bienenstock: Why are most politicians still so far behind the will of the people when it comes to marijuana? And do you see that changing for the better?
Pete Holmes: Were actually seeing a sea change on this issuenot only here in progressive Seattle, but all across the country. As you well know, polling indicates that more and more Americans recognize that prohibition as a policy towards marijuana has failed, and they want to see something done about it. Because addressing a public health issue with criminal law is just simply ineffective.
Here in Washington, both gubernatorial candidates and both attorney-general candidates opposed I-502, but said they would enforce it if passed by the voters. So I think the mainstream political parties still look at marijuana policynot in Seattle, but across the stateas a little bit dangerous. Thats a reaction to something that has been labeled criminal for so long that its difficult for even progressive minds to wrap their heads around a new system where we take this once illegal commodity and regulate it responsibly. All of which is a long-winded way of saying that weve got the public behind us, and were trying to get the leaders to follow.

(2,730 posts)disingenious. Just put them under oath and ask them if they ever experienced smoking marijuana. We now have the last three Presidents of the United States on record, Obama,Bush and Clinton. So lets quit this Dog and Pony show. They are no better than anybodyelse.

(591 posts)words mean things
either they deliberately use/used the wrong word or they were too stupid to look it up. I suspect they deliberately used it perhaps because if they used the correct word more people would have looked at the initiative more closely.
Decriminalization or
Legalization
which one do you think applies to WA 502, keeping in mind the 64 pages of laws now in effect-which few supporters ever read-and all the laws that never went away(Most of them)? Most legal professionals, when not on camera, call it decrim. On camera, magic pixie dust turns it into LEGALIZATION! Whoo Hoo!
and Holmes never mentions fixing the worst thing about 502 (supporters said just pass it and they'll fix it-like NAFTA)--
The DUID law.
Maybe he's "fixing" it in secret.
Holmes may think people don't know the definition of words but he couldn't be more wrong.
Fix the GD Law, Punk! And stop lying about what exists. And if you're reading this and you love Cannabis tell jackasses like Holmes to stay the hell out of your state.
