Why do the rich support a party that pulls the economy down?

Sure the Democrats want to take away their "temporary" tax cuts but is that worse than the country falling into a depression?
The recent Republican Party has proven itself to be the most financially irresponsible party in history of this country and still they have the full support of the financial goombas.

I don't get it.

2. It's about power. The little people need to be shown their place & kept there.

They support policies that keep themselves rich, but make everyone else poor. One more way to expand their influence over the govt, and decrease the political influence of lesser people.

The economy for the 1% is just fine, thank you very much. They don't give a shit about us as long as we're under control. Which we are.

After 30+ year exodus, the rich are all but gone already. They've moved to other, less troublesome economies.

naked short sales, collecting rent, means the 1% make money whether the economy is going up or down. Republicans more willingly facilitate the transfer of wealth up the scale.

Probably profit even more off economic disaster. Those insider trading rules don't apply to wealthy Republicans.

6. You can't feel properly rich unless there are a lot of poor people to look down on

The last thing the wealthy want is a reasonably egalitarian society, they are so much better than the unwashed masses and it hurts their feelings endlessly if we are not constantly reminded of our inferiority to them in some demeaning way or other.

7. The rich are looking past the short term

They're looking at the big picture and the big picture is for there to be two classes, the rich and the dirt poor, no in between
The rich have enough to make it past this blip on their radar and they see it as an investment to future riches like they've not seen before.
If it keeps going as it is at some point we will know who our enemys are by the size of the fences they put up to keep us out of their world. Right now they do that with wages but at some point that won't work any longer

And the manner in which the GOP trashes the economy for the rest of us just makes them more rich.
The rest of the country falling into a depression doesn't affect them, at least in the short term.
These are people who will get rid of jobs just to make the next QUARTER profits look better.
And, the cherry on top - if things get really bad, they will, as always, get bailed out, even as they squat on their overseas deposits.
Both parties are complicit.
