Ryan leads the R field for 2016--Proof that Republicans DO learn.

Just like they learned from Vietnam.

Unfortunately for them (and all too often for us), what they learn is generally the wrong lesson.

In Vietnam they learned to keep the press and cameras away from actual combat missions with all the blood & gore, safely "embedding" them at Headquarters.

In 2012 they learned that Romney was too much of a weak-kneed liberal to win the election.

Other things they have learned--

There is no global warming.
The way to solve the energy crisis is with tar-sand crude.
The way to fix the economy is to starve the poor.
The (flat) Earth was created in 4004 B.C.

God help us!

there isn't anybody over there that knows how to RUN a decent campaign anymore (maybe Steve Schmidt, but he would need a viable GenElec. candidate to even THINK of trying such a thing after dealing with Palin, and he knows Ryan ain't it.) 2016 is going to be ours to lose unless we TOTALLY forget how to govern in the next 4 years, and that won't happen with Obama, Reid, Pelosi and Axelrod at the Party Helm.
I still want Howard Dean back running the DNC though. That he got pushed out aggravates me to no end.

But Debbie Schultz needs props man - she's doing quite well from what I see - unless you know something I don't, which is possible. I've had my head in Organic chem the past two years.

I truly thought that Romney's wealth would be equated with economic genius and he would be elected. But, the voters didn't like him. They likely will not like Ryan. Kinda depends on who the Dems put up. Some folks would love to see Bernie Sanders running.

Julian Bond's fantastic local work set the stage for Barack Obama. . Julian Catro's leadership in San Antonio could be his springboard or could set the stage for someone else.

I like it!

That being said, it really saddens me that we're letting lunatics get within striking distance to the white house.

Not as much worried about the House. If Democrats vote, we might be able to pick up a few House seats and overcome the GOP's gerrymandering.

We also have to pay attention to state houses. There are two states where the state house is on the ballot next year and we need to make gains in both of them. The smaller the race, the more directly it affects you. (As a campaign staffer, I'm leaning more towards a legislative race than a governor's race next year)

Until they moderate the parties platform they will have to resort to cheating on a grander scale then they tried to this time around.

They are their own worse enemy.

Thankfully.

...four years ago at this time, the leading R candidate was probably Palin. NOBODY is thinking about who they really want to vote for four years from now, and Ryan has the advantage of marginally better name recognition.
