(7,318 posts)Male politicians seem to do that more and more and not just presidential candidates. Females have done that for a long time.

(51,076 posts)coming up next. I couldn't turn the tv off quick enough. The last thing I'm going to listen to is someone bashing this President about anything. He's working his heart out for us.

(644 posts)but it is President Obama not Mr. Obama
We have seen a tremendous lack of respect shown to our President and, in my opinion, we all should be working to turn the tables back around.
Watching the little things does make a difference IMO.

(154,021 posts)Is common usage by the NYT from the times of at least the Grant Administration. It is not disrespect, just archaic usage. Most papers use AP style.

(23,973 posts)As long as it is first understood that it is the President we are first talking about, and as we can all agree that we all already know that Barack Obama is indeed president of this nation, it is redundant to continually refer back to his specific title in conversation.
In general, when first addressing to or talking about the president, it is "President Obama", then after that, "Mr. President", or "Mr. Obama".
Everyone here knows Mr. Obama is the President of the United States.
I take that as a given.
Search my posting history and see if I have ever once been disrespectful of this president.
