STOP! Don't Touch Social Security

If this DEMOCRATIC President offers any kind of cut to SS, I will find it extremely difficult to continue my support for him. I find it unbelievable that SS, a cornerstone of Democratic principles, would even be considered a bargaining chip.

If SS is touched in any way, my cynicism will be complete.

money is there to do it. If SS benefits are cut, the battle will be fierce over the next two years and any Senator who votes for such a cut is going to face challenges when they come up for reelection according to the huge Coalition now formed to protect America's most vulnerable citizens.

At least if it happens, we will finally get to see who really cares about the American people and who doesn't. Then we can work to replace them.

For me it is about the policy, nothing to do with political personalities. Anybody calling them self a Democrat should be fighting to expand and strengthen SS.

for some reason you appear to believe he is a liar, I just think he is a Reagan "Democrat".

Pres Obama: David, in pursuit of strengthening SS, I'm willing to cut SS benefits

Finally, it comes from the horse's mouth.

But David, as you know, one of the proposals we made was something called Chain CPI, which sounds real technical but basically makes an adjustment in terms of how inflation is calculated on Social Security. Highly unpopular among Democrats. Not something supported by AARP. But in pursuit of strengthening Social Security for the long-term I'm willing to make those decisions.

worse'. We KNOW that which is why we are democrats. I don't even know what that is supposed to mean. To me it means 'Dems are bad, but Repubs are worse' whenever I hear it. Yet, the same people who make these statements also argue that the parties are not the same. We KNOW that also, and that is why we expect so much more of Democrats and why we expect Democrats to stop the Republican agenda, not compromise with them, STOP them.
