(28,158 posts)Now everyone has had a chance to figure out what a chained CPI actually means for SS. It's not something Americans are willing to support. Which is good, it's a dead concept now due public opinion turning it into a poison pill.

(661 posts)Obama was advocating for chained CPI. Harry Reid slapped him down. Your ignoring of the facts is really galling.

(10,611 posts)The President and the Senate Majority Leader actually knew what they were BOTH doing, what with all the meetings they have. Ya think there might have been some strategy going on, despite the fact that they don't send meeting minutes to the blogosphere?
Harry Reid does not "slap" the president down - though some would probably love to see that what with the quick contempt shown every time the press drops some false lead about the negotiations.

Or maybe Harry Reid crushed a dream of Obama's. If you watched meet the press today Obama was boasting about Chained CPI so please don't spout nonsense about some "false lead about negotiations"

(43,169 posts)because Obama still has to govern. This approach is in the long term
best interests of the party.
If Obama were to reject the cuts, he would be portrayed as a dictator.
This is good strategy, akin to what the Republicans do: stick together.
