(5,465 posts)I can't find anything more about this anywhere. Son of a gun, I hope all will be well. The blood clot may well be on her brain since its apparently a result of her concussion... not a trivial matter. We need all send positive thought! Thanks malaise!!

That bleeding is now a clot, technically a brain lesion, that they are now trying to resolve with anticoagulants, that come with their own attendant risks as well.
It's no small thing.
UPDATE: It may not be in her brain. I sure hope not. Still no small thing.

(5,465 posts)I know this, I've known it for years, but I am a very old Pollyanna in many ways. I didn't know, I didn't expect that, I am seething at this moment. Literally seething. Time to back away from my keyboard as I feel a repuke rage coming on, and Hillary needs positive thoughts right now, not the disgust and anger I am feeling.
Thanks again for the news, malaise. Sighs.

(21,046 posts)Blood clots can be deadly.
I know.
Thanksgiving night of 2011 I was admitted to the emergency room for pulmonary emboli. That means I had many blood clots in my lungs and would have died without immediate attention.
They started in my legs as deep vein thrombosis and went through my heart and settled in my lungs. I spent 8 days in ICU. Paying off the bill a little bit at a time.
Best wishes to Madame Secretary!
malaise
(268,967 posts)to deep vein thrombosis.. Serena Williams had one as well.
Glad you recovered.

(21,046 posts)On Nov. 22nd (what a day to go through Dallas, huh?) I was driving thru Dallas on I-45/I-35 and it took me SIX HOURS to get through Dallas. It was at a standstill all the way to Denton. I remember pulling over & stopping frequently at gas stations to pee(I had uncontrolled diabetes as well) and just slumping in the driver's seat.
I was in stopped traffic, and the cars on either side of me would pull ahead of me, have a standoff in front of me, trying to get to the opposite lane. I have never seen anything like it. This was on I-35 where it goes East/West just North of downtown.
By 2 days later I was panting violently every time I attempted to take a step. When I hit the ER, after cooking all day, my blood sugar was almost 700 and my O2 was at 85% instead of 100%.
Took coumadin for 6 months. I'm OK now.
Thanks for your wishes for my good health!

(268,967 posts)Glad you're OK now. One of our good friends had a major brain tumor removed earlier this year.
Her recovery is amazing. If you can afford it, there is top class medical treatment available these days.

(23,278 posts)It migrated to my left lung...thank god.I was hospitalized on two separate occaisions for teatment...less than one week post-op lobectomy.Went home on coumadin, had trouble getting my INR elevated, acute chest pain and shortness of breath, admitted to ICU exactly one month after surgery
I am an RN,CCRN,RN-BC who has spent about 25 years caring for blood clots post-op.They don't just happen at the site of injury.
Care Acutely
(1,370 posts)It just seems dangerous to treat with anticoagulants, even if it has migrated, for fear of opening up that bleed again. Of course you can't just leave someone in respiratory distress/failure either - what a messy business it all is - still.
Thanks for your experience. Sorry it had to become personal experience.

(5,465 posts)Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has been admitted to a New York hospital after the discovery of a blood clot stemming from the concussion she sustained earlier this month.
Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines says her doctors discovered the clot during a follow-up exam Sunday. Reines says Clinton is being treated with anti-coagulants.
Clinton was admitted to New York-Presbyterian Hospital so doctors can monitor the medication over the next 48 hours.
Reines says doctors will continue to assess Clinton's condition, "including other issues associated with her concussion."

(11,464 posts)all her haters can go to hell.
It is something young and old can get. Many kids who fall off their bike get this, it is why now they want kids to wear helmets
The repubican rightwing conspiracy is in full spin. She was the first to say that years ago, and it is 100% true then and know.
Being that John Kerry is the new SOS, he can well handle the congressional hearings anyhow.
That is what he is there for.He can testify. He knows all that needs to be told.
I hope though it was an accident and wasn't one of the haters that pushed her down or something. Wouldn't put it past them, knowing they can't stop her in 2016. But we can only speculate.
Do hope the secret service is checking and looking into something like that.

(135,830 posts)Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was admitted to a New York City hospital on Sunday after doctors discovered that a blood clot had formed, the State Department said in a statement.
Philippe Reines, a deputy assistant secretary, said in the statement that the clot stems from a concussion Clinton sustained several weeks ago.
Reines said that Clinton, 65, is being treated with anti-coagulants at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. She will be monitored there for the next 48 hours, he said.
Her doctors will continue to assess her condition, including other issues associated with her concussion," he said. "They will determine if any further action is required.
