Bob Kerrey isn't yet a U.S. Senate candidate, but he's getting lambasted on the airwaves by a conservative group with deep pockets.
The television and radio advertisements label Kerrey an "East Coast liberal." They were bought last week by Americans for Prosperity-Nebraska, a group tied to a national organization supported by billionaire industrialists Charles and David Koch.
The group is running the ad in the Omaha and Lincoln television market, and on radio stations across the state. In all, about $105,000 in advertisements were purchased, said Brad Stevens, state director of the group.
He noted that the nonprofit group does not have to disclose its donors, but said that more than 1,000 Nebraskans have donated to the group.

(135,425 posts)I guess all East Coast Liberals leave a body part behind after going to war.
I think someone associated with Mr. K ought to make it an issue as to who is giving money to this PAC....what kind of sleazeballs would try to smear a local war hero in this way?

(9,322 posts)He's the only legitimate hope Nebraska has of getting a Democratic Senator. I doubt he will run and the Conservative Pacs are trying to scare him away. Ben Nelson was facing a brutal campaign and I think they scared him away. Kerrey is facing the same thing. He might be thinking at this point, 'Why would I want to get smeared mercilessly for the next 9 months?" Would be nice to have a real race and have some chance of not getting another toadie like Don Stenberg or John Brunning. Having the dumbest Senator in the Congress (Johanns) you thought would be bad enough but we're gunning for the 2 dumbest Senators in 2012.
