The segment starts with how Norway usually wins alot of medals in the winter Olympics. But that isn't the focus of the story. Apparently the government has numerous policies making it cheap or free for young children to do lots of fun winter sports, especially with their families and friends. Four and six year olds enjoy trying the ski jump! (It's very miniature.) Competition isn't the objective. These kids grow up to become active outdoors people in good health. Cross-country skiing is the most popular sport for the general public. The only rules are have fun and make friends.

(12,719 posts)I suggested to my daughter to in law that my great granddaughter should be in gymnastics. Guess what? It's out of reach financially. That's not training with some kind of elite coach but just the basics.
As to winter sports- well we do have an ice rink. No ski slopes in Texas
