US forces board third oil tanker in Indo Pacific tracked from Caribbean to Indian Ocean

U.S. military forces boarded a third sanctioned oil tanker in the Indo-Pacific Command (IndoPaCom) region on Tuesday — which was tracked from the Caribbean to the Indian Ocean.

The Pentagon said that U.S. forces boarded “Bertha,” without “incident.”

The vessel, which was sanctioned by the U.S. government in December 2024 over its role in transporting “illicit Iranian petroleum” to foreign markets, was operating in defiance of President Trump’s quarantine of sanctioned ships in the Caribbean and tried to evade U.S. authorities, according to the Defense Department.
