Are there a lot of firecrackers and etc where you are tonight?

or is it just me?
My poor dog had to be given Valium, the entire neighborhhood sounds like the sound effects tape of WW1, and we are STILL 2 hours from the worst of it.
I am getting much too old to enjoy this kind of "holiday" crap.

I grew up in the San Diego area and it was much less a problem. When I spent New Years a couple of years ago at my parents house in southern San Diego area, a few miles from the Mexican border, a couple of neighbors did make a huge racket for an hour or so. It never happened when I lived there.

Never heard fireworks on new years before I moved to the south. These yahoos around where I live blow them off for any two-bit "holiday".

One New Year's Eve, replete with loud banging going off since 10PM, I heard a sharp "crack" on my roof. Thinking it a spent skyrocket I waited till the next day to investigate, and I couldn't find any fireworks debris when I did. Only after a water stain in my ceiling and many failed attempts for me to find the cause and fix it did I get a roofer out here. He peeled a shingle back to display a large hole, and when we went into the attic we saw the splintered wood but could find no slug...which had to be a .45 or a shotgun "slug" round. Really pissed me off because I wondered what might have happened if I happened to be outside and the round fell a few feet short: I'd have had my head layed wide open.

Stupid rednecks: I hate the fucking bastards.

Few acres of trees on both sides of the highway, but sound carries around here.
and often we hear gunfire.
I am hoping we live too far away for any bullet fallout.

Really went crazy for 30 solid minutes at a quarter to midnight until a quarter after. During this 30 minute time period I was watching 6 different 'shows' from my back porch, some to the west of me, some to the north, some to the east. I couldn't see toward the south but I could hear them.

All the neighborhood dogs are howling . . . my cats have been under the bed for hours.

I know from past experience that there will be random fireworks for at least 3 more hours. Good thing tomorrow is a holiday . . . I will need the sleep!

Of course it's illegal unless you have a permit, but it's almost impossible to enforce the fireworks ban. There's no way the cops could catch every moron (excuse me, 'moran') creating his own personal fireworks show. I'm just glad the idiots shooting off live rounds of ammunition don't seem to be out and about tonight! New Orleans is like the Wild West sometimes.

It is 70!!! degrees, lovely weather to be putside, darn it, so sure enough, the kids up the street are blowing off their firecrackers, non-stop, as I type.
Poor dog is ..again...cowering at my feet, panting with anxiety.
supposed to rain today, looks like not for a couple more hours, so the lil bastards with their noise will not be driven into their house soon enough.

On July 4, it was too dry for fireworks so they had them last night and I kept seeing and hearing fireworks from all around until midnight at least. I guess this will be a new thing since with climate change, chances are, July will be too dry for fireworks.

My dog is terrified of thunderstorms and firecrackers; she'll shake and hide on the 4th at the distant (10-12 miles) sound of fireworks in town on the 4th.
