Romney Cracks On the Late Ted Kennedy

"I didn't beat Ted Kennedy but I made him take a mortgage out on his house!"

Romney again references how Ted Kennedy had to take out a mortgage on his house to beat him http://t.co/tSexy7Sz #FLDebate

What A Thrill
TheFix @ TheFix : "What a great thrill that was." -- Mitt on running against Ted Kennedy. #fldebate

from WaPo blog:

Mitt Romney responds with a reference to his record as Massachusetts governor as well as his 1994 Senate bid against then-Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.).

“What a great thrill that was,” Romney says. “I didn’t beat him, but he had to take a mortgage out on his house to defeat me.”

It’s a line that Romney has said in previous debates, but one that – given the now-heightened scrutiny on his finances – could come back to haunt him.

. . . touched a lot of lives with his record legislative accomplishments in the areas of Health, Labor, Workplace Safety, Health Care, and Hunger.

He's remembered by more than DUers and 'interested Dems. Ronmey's treading recklessly and callously over sacred ground.

I was expecting something like 'good riddance he's dead' here. Instead it's some bullshit about how he gave Kennedy a run for his money. That may be true or it may be false. I don't know enough about the race to say either way. But I don't think it's a big deal. It's just your normal grandstanding. it's essentially Romney saying: 'I took on a dynasty and like, came close to being a real challenger. Look at me!'

. . .just some creep leveraging his cynical politics on the memory of one of our party's most respected icons.

He got his ass kicked, as would be expected in a race between a loser like Romney and a lion like Ted Kennedy. But I don't think he did anything wrong. After all, he is referencing him losing.

he made a man who didn't have much, borrow money just to keep up with his millions. Not sure why he thinks that is some kind of accomplishment. It just shows just how out of touch he truly is.

Says the soon-to-be loser of another presidential election.

Face it Romney, you'll forever be the bridesmaid; never the bride. In fact, your party would rather have someone that's had three brides over you.

and (2) calling it a "thrill" that someone had to mortgage his home at a time when foreclosures are happening too often.

Once again the jackass inadvertently makes our point for us. His bragging about how he made Ted Kennedy mortgage his own house, while he, Mr. Moneybags, was able to piss away piles of his own money and still have lots more left over, shows just how fouled up our electoral system is. Just like his tax release battle is showing how messed up and unequal our tax system is. Thanks, Mitt! Keep up the good work!

but he isn't fit to kiss his ass either. The quote points out a serious problem though. As a former liberal US Congressional candidate myself...it was virtually impossible to beat the incumbant. He spent 796K to my 58K I got 43% percent of the vote. Just suppose, that we had election financing and strict limits...might have been an even race? If I was Willard I wouldn't be bragging about how some one had to mortgage their home inorder to participate in serving our national political discussion.
