Joyce Vance: Decency Died Along with Bob Mueller

https://joycevance.substack.com/p/decency-died-along-with-bob-mueller

Former Marine, U.S.Attorney, FBI Director and Special Counsel Robert Mueller passed away Friday evening. He was a giant of a man whose commitment to justice and fairness was staunch. I met him for the first time during the investigation into the murder of my Father-in-Law shortly before I went to DOJ. His, was one of the good examples. Every prosecutor who came in contact with him was better off for it.

When the Mueller report was finished during Trump’s first term in office, Trump‘s Attorney General, Bill Barr, claimed it was a total exoneration. That, of course, was not the case. Once the entire, albeit redacted, report became available, it was clear that it was a stunning indictment of a sitting president—but one that respected constraints on prosecutors that prevented an actual indictment of a sitting president. It should’ve been a roadmap for Congress to impeach and convict, but they did not take up Muller’s invitation.

Trump shared his comments on the passing of an American hero this morning: “Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead.”

-snip-

Across the country, people who knew and worked with Mueller will be honoring his service to our nation as they remember him. But it’s not just a great man and a loss for the country that we should mourn today. It is also a loss of decency, honor, and integrity. We should have a president who is better than this.

Mueller was on record as saying the report showed extensive connection between
Russia and the Trump Campaign.

I.O.W.s Trump is a Russian agent.

Not asset, although I'm sure the Russians consider him an asshat as well.

From reading the comments on some related OPs, it is obvious they did not read his report.

I think one of the reasons why there wasn't many bombshells is because the media already reported what was later released in the report which didn't seem as damning as when we first heard the news. I'm more interested in what is behind the redactions of the report.

However, I still agree with some of the comments. Jack Smith was a lot more aggressive and more impressive when he testified in front of Congress. I just assumed Mueller couldn't prosecute since Trump was at the time President while Jack Smith did his investigation he was a regular citizen at that point and know that since that Trump was elected again Jack Smith could no longer prosecute. I understand a lot of that but I still think Jack Smith was a lot more impressive as prosecutor of Trump.

While I respect Mr. Mueller, he was very sick when he oversaw the Russian influence scandal. I felt terrible for him when he testified to Congress in public, as it was obvious that he was not well. I also keep in mind that his task was to investigate a huge scandal, while Mr. Smith was focused on one person.

Justice matters.

any sitting POTUS is immune from prosecution for alleged crimes he/she* might have committed.

Once again, the failure to follow the rules as written will destroy the "experiment" imminently.

A graduate of Princeton University and New York University, Mueller served as a Marine Corps officer during the Vietnam War, receiving a Bronze Star for heroism and a Purple Heart. He subsequently attended the University of Virginia School of Law. Mueller was a registered Republican in Washington, D.C.,[1] and was appointed and reappointed to Senate-confirmed positions by presidents George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama.[2][3]

In the summer of 1968, he was sent to South Vietnam, where he served as a rifle platoon leader as a second lieutenant with Second Platoon, H Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division.[9][28] On December 11, 1968, during an engagement in Operation Scotland II, he earned the Bronze Star with "V" device for combat valor for rescuing a wounded Marine under enemy fire during an ambush in which he saw half of his platoon become casualties.[29][30] In April 1969, he received an enemy gunshot wound in the thigh, recovered, and returned to lead his platoon until June 1969.[31] For his service in and during the Vietnam War, his military decorations and awards included additionally, the Purple Heart, two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals with Combat "V", Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four service stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Parachutist Badge.

Reflecting on his service in the Vietnam War, Mueller said, "I consider myself exceptionally lucky to have made it out of Vietnam. There were many—many—who did not. And perhaps because I did survive Vietnam, I have always felt compelled to contribute."[34] In 2009, he told a writer that despite his other accomplishments, he was still "most proud the Marine Corps deemed me worthy of leading other Marines."[27]

But, when his country needed him most, he allowed the aspiring dictator to seize power.

Epic fail.

"We should have a president who is better than this" is a weak, soft, mealy mouthed, vacant response to what Trump said.

Ms Vance should have said that "Trump's response showed that he is an EVIL LYING FUCKING ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!!!!! "

Thanks for allowing me my opinion. . You don't fight fire with roses. When are we going to learn?

decency died long before Mr. Mueller. It was interred when Trump was first elected. Or maybe even earlier than that. With Newt Gingrich.
