I would assume trap would be "they are leading me into a trap" but that doesn't make a lot of sense given how would they know?

I blame brain fog. Definitely in need of sleep.

What's a good response in a scenario like the one shown in the video? How do I act/intervene without exposing the woman to greater danger?

I would help in a heartbeat, but in my ignorance I fear that I could could cause greater harm just as fast.

I don't have an answer

If the victim's situation is so dire that she can't scream for help in a public place, it's possible the perp has a weapon or something

She goes back to the woman and pretends to be a friend who hasn’t seen her in awhile, and cleverly (AND quickly) leads her away so they can “go out and catch up over coffee” or some such excuse.

The intervener may not know the signaler from Adam, but she knows the signal, and she just might have saved the other woman from another beating, or maybe worse.

Would it work if I did it?

Or should I alert a nearby woman to intervene, lest a male stranger's attention cause further trouble for her?

The guy evidently dismissed the whole thing as just MY girl must have seen a pal. Maybe, as a suspected abuser, he just didn’t think much about it, or maybe even shrugged it off. If he’s an abuser, perhaps he has limited thinking - like an old-style caveman who only understands his big intimidating domination behavior.

And it happened so fast that there wasn’t much time to react. Before he could respond, the two women were putting some distance between themselves and him. Maybe he thought he’d “deal with this later”. But maybe (hopefully) enough later that his victim had a chance to get even farther away from him and his attempted dominance, and unlock whatever hold he might have had on her.

I’m no professional analyst or anything, but I do understand some psychology and “subliminal messaging”. Slick work on behalf of the rescuer, I must say! Brilliant! There are rescuers among us, and that renews my faith.

12. Hand signal for "Help!" and "Domestic violence"

This is almost always signalled by a woman (or a child) who is in fear but cannot speak up because a male is present and controlling her.

That's what the Bluesky video demonstrates here.
