As the Trump administration moves thousands of U.S. service members to the Middle East amid the disastrous US-Israeli war on Iran, remarkable dissent is brewing inside the U.S. military.
Mike Prysner of the Center on Conscience and War joins Prem to discuss the opposition inside the military as some troops currently on their way to the Middle East seek to refuse fighting.
According to Prysner, command is telling soldiers to prepare for the worst. Theyre saying a ground war is inevitable, like this is happening, you better get ready.
The media is either loudly banging the war drums, or completely disregarding historic public and military dissent. We at Zeteo are reporting on the war like it is. Please subscribe to support us in our mission to build a media fit for the moment: https://zeteo.com/subscribe

(33,778 posts)In the current case, with a volunteer force, soldiers have a legal duty to refuse orders that breach international statutes as in war crimes. The only other idea is maybe through administrative discharge.
But I'm not an expert.

(54 posts)They might be dealt with administratively at an article 15 hearing. They might be kicked out. They could be court martialed.
After the fact, maybe lawyers could get some of the actions overturned. Maybe even force the service to give them back pay and allow them back in or get their records corrected for the discharge type. It's happened before with the repeal of DADT and with people who got kicked out for refusing the covid shot.
But the military won't wait around for years while lawyers argue about it and it gets pushed all the way up to the supreme court for a final decision. They'll take action against members who refuse to follow orders.

(5,174 posts)the guy who started this media outlet. He is controversial and has had political beliefs all over the map. I don't know what to think about their reporting because of the founders past and present. Here's a clip from Wikipedia:
Ten years later, he did apologize for these comments:
