(20,600 posts)He won the debate about his tax cuts, 98% of them were renewed permanently. The republicans have managed to scare the Democrats into adopting "tax cuts are the solution".
Who knew Dubya would be vindicated.

(3,261 posts)As is, it's "okay" and pretty close to what I expected from a compromise. However, we have to see what round two brings. It's way too early to declare some kind of monumental shift in our national economic discussion. We'll see what happens. I'm more hopeful than I've been in recent years.

(3,502 posts)The Republicans are unhappy. They're angry and feeling butthurt. That's got to mean that this is a very good thing. At least that's my scientific analysis of the situation.

About good as it gets circumstantially? Maybe, but bad is automatic. I think the cliff would have gone a long way toward governmental and fiscal sanity over the long term but we punted a bit so we'll have to see what shakes out over the next scam or two to figure out how bad or not bad we came out.
